Jason Statham CANNOT do an American accent, it sounds forced, fake and embarrassing. This ruined the film for me along with a handful of other things. Surely no one can seriously think this guy can really act out an American character ??

Got to agree with many of the replies.. I'm a massive fan of Statham but man he cant do an American accent for his life! It was awful in the Transporter movies too and im pretty sure during one of them he just stopped it half way and started using his own London accent.. director and producers must of been like .. this really isn't working.. you wanna try something your more comfortable with and hope no ones notices ? :D
Despite all that... you gotta love him!
I don't think he was attempting an "American" accent (because that's not vague at all), but when you stay somewhere long enough, you end up adopting certain vocal mannerisms. Since he's British, obviously currently residing in the United States, I'd find it odd if a few words didn't have an American tint to it.
But this isn't unexpected. He's done it in several films. On the other hand, if he was speaking "fully British" and using British slang terms, people would be here complaining they don't know what he's saying.
Can't win.

As far as I'm concerned, if an accent is passable to the majority of viewers it's good enough. And no, I don't care if an actor screws up my native accent as long as he acts the s&*t out of that part.
he is trying to do an American accent. you can hear it in certain bits of dialogue.

He was? It sounded more like an Americanized Brit. Maybe he's an Americanized Brit in the NYPD? Can't say I've ever even seen one of those around here in NY and certainly not on the NYPD.
shareAgree. His accent is truly terrible. However, the film was so unbelievably boring and stupid that I gave up after 45min, so I didn't have to endure it for long.
