I saw this movie for the first time the other day, but had the misfortune of trying to watch it with a group of noisy people. I missed a couple of plot points that I was hoping someone could fill me in on:

When the kids get evacuated, and decide to go back to rescue Alice, one of them stays behind. Why?

How did the kid know that the alien/monster was going to be found underground, and more pressingly, how did he know the entrance was in some garage next to a cemetary?!

At the very end (spoilers I guess?) it seems the creature is trying to build a makeshift spaceship out of microwaves, car engines and everything else it managed to salvage. However it seems to quickly form into a perfect alien craft. Also the magnetism draws a ton of stuff onto the water tower that just sticks there, but a load more seems to get reshaped. What's the deal?

He had a special connection with the monster because he was infected
