7.1 my a.ss

i'm reconsidering my thought about using imdb ratings as a reference to find good movies to watch. i have just seen this piece of crap and it deserves at most 5/10. it is typical speilberg film, kids with good emotions, a kid's love and longing to his deceased mother, friendship ancolloboration between kids, their parents etc etc. it had nothing special, a dull story, no twists, no good lines. just bunch of kids trying to act. what a waste of time

I was disappointed but I still enjoyed it.

I gave it a 6, because it was a fun kid's film with some interesting effects and audio.

But yeah, i was pretty disappointed with some of the poor acting/characters, the CGI, the constant lens flare, and the utter predictability of the cliche screenplay.

I gave it a 10. I don't like many non-horror movies or many movies made after the year 2000, but this one is an exception. It was fun to watch kids trying to make a zombie movie, but also I liked the emotional side to the characters. The ending was beautiful to me when it showed the kids truly having an emotional bond with their parents for the first time. Also, I liked the alien subplot in addition to all that. This film is great and I'm glad to be a fan.

I gave it a 10 as well.

don't you think it's kind of unrealistic to expect movie ratings to align with what you think all the time?

reply

No, 7.1 seems about right

reply

yeah a 5/10 would suit it right.

Like chilone, I gave it a 9, because I ENJOYED the movie thoroughly, not because it was a particular masterpiece. So your 5 and my 9 average out to 7, which is about right for this movie!

I grew up as a geek in the 70's and while I didn't do much with Super 8 film back then, I'm a videographer now and I've always been into drama, and would totally have hung out with a group of guys like this and crushed on a girl like Elle Fanning. The scene at the train station where they set everything up and get the shot with the train coming in IS a masterpiece - one of my favourite scenes in any movie anywhere - culminating with the train crash (yeah, I know it was over the top, but it was just so smash-em-up COOL!).

I like lots of different kinds of movie, but this one just made me grin ...
