The kid ruined this movie with his awful acting
Anybody else's viewing ruined by his terrible acting? I couldn't take the movie serious which was a shame because Naomi and Ewan's performance was outstanding.

shareI'm not usually a fan of kid actors, but just as I was reading this thread, I happened to be watching the scene where Lucas sees little Daniel and his father in the hospital. The Lucas kid was extraordinary. You could see a dozen emotions playing out on his face. It was really quite impressive--I have to give him credit.
(I've seen the movie before, so that's why I'm on IMDb while I watch.)
Yes, I agree. The boy was very fine and virtually carried large parts of the movie by himself. I really don't know what's ailing the original poster. If he'd complained about cliche situations and excessive sentimentality I could understand, but to pick on this boy's acting when it's one of the best aspects of the movie...I just don't know. If I was the boy and I read this thread I'd be thinking, Wow, there's just no pleasing some people!
I just watched "Valentine's Day." Many posters are having a MELTDOWN about Taylor Swift's acting skills. She plays a ditzy teenager carrying an enormous teddy bear and she only appears for about 90 seconds in a 2.5 hour movie (as delivered by TBS, heh.) The role didn't really call for the skill set of Dame Judy Dench. More people investing way too much enthusiasm into complaining.
Meanwhile, back to Tom Holland. I looked up his bio and learned he was the actor I saw in London in "Billy Elliot, The Musical." He's phenomenal. I look forward to watching his future success unfold.
What movie did you see??
I thought that Tom Holland's performance was one of the best in the movie, and that he held his own with the adult leads very well.
Have you ever been around a young kid in a tense situation? They do not act at all as you might expect. They shut up and do what the adults tell them to, and in Lucas' case, rise to the occession with courage and clarity that many adults can't muster. They don't scream and cry, becuase they are too focused on survival. Lucas' behavior when he finally saw his little brothers moved me very much.
I thought his performance was brilliant.
I probably replied b4 but didn't feel like wading through 4 pages of answers to see if I had...so forgive me if this is a repeat. I hope u aren't referring to Tom Holland because every time I watch the film, I wonder why he wasn't ***Oscar nominated*** for his role! Seriously. If Tatum O'Neal can win one, surely this kid could be recognized for his brilliant, gut-wrenching performance! He nailed his performance and how anyone could feel that this is terrible acting obviously hasn't had decades as a cinephile under his belt.
shareAny 'cinephile' would realise that this film is a load of over sentimental tosh, where all the actors at some point turn around really s-l-o-w-l-y for extra dramatic effect, as that godawful music plays over the soundtrack.
The boy actor is WOODEN!
And the leaving on a private jet ending with the blatant and disgusting product placement for ZURICH INSURANCE was quite possibly the most vile thing i've ever witnessed in a film.
This abomination is an insult and a disgrace to the real men women and children who went through the Tsunami.
"Perhaps he's wondering why someone would SHOOT a man before throwing him out of a plane..."
Wooden my ass. Besides it always annoys me when people complain when an actor/actress doesn't go basically over the top. "OH BOOHOO WOE IS ME AND THE WORLD IS IN RUIN, NOW I MUST CRY 24/7 AND GO ALL SHAKESPEARE!" How about hell no. Take many people and put them all in the same situation, and you'll see a variety of behaviors. I don't see why the hell it can't be the same in movies. It's pretty damn boring if everyone's going after some artificial movie ideal in their performance that everyone needs to fit into. I sure as hell don't want that.
Yes, a movie is a movie and not real life, but that doesn't mean everything has to be overacted.
Why do you reply on every thread with the same *beep* you stupid troll. No one is talking to you and no one cares
shareWell you're talking to me, so you obviously care a little bit. Bless.
By the way i'm not the only one on these boards to criticize the boys acting. Many other posters have done so if you look. I didn't even start this thread to begin with!
It all comes down to being able to tell good acting from bad. Obviously i and many others on these boards have this ability and those who think the boys performance was wonderful have not. Simple.
"Perhaps he's wondering why someone would SHOOT a man before throwing him out of a plane..."
I can't believe that anyone would characterize his acting as wooden. His transformation from sullen pre-teenager to young hero and protector of his mother was amazing. The scene where he was helping out by looking for survivors made my heart swell and impressed me even more. I even looked him up on IMDB to learn more about him and his beginning and hopefully impressive career.
shareI just watched this and honestly within thirty minutes was thinking how damn impressed I was by his acting. The younger ones weren't as good later on but the eldest was excellent. Especially when he was screaming for his mum just after the wave hit - had me in tears already.
shareI think that he did an amazing job. I am surprised that you did not feel any emotion when he was running towards his brothers when they finally found each other.
Unfortunately Nancy i don't feel all emotional when i know a film is trying to manipulate me. Good God the film practically begs the audience to have a good old cry.
It obviously worked on you. It seems to get the women the most, this film. I assume you are a woman with a name like Nancy. Forgive me if you are a bloke.

Hey folks,
I generally think "to each his own" when it comes to different folks having different opinions on matters. For those who think this kid did not perform well, so be it. I think he and the rest of the actors in the family gave great performances. I believed what I saw on the film and they made me care about the characters. That is a good job to me.
Best wishes,
Dave Wile
