reply

You're right. I hope you accept my apologies

reply

Thank you! And i do! Have you seen this particular movie film

reply

I did. It struck me as a movie for the younger audiences, but was quite enjoyable nonetheless.

reply

Yeah it was very enjoyable to me as well, I sat in the theatre there with my large bucket and soda and just had a ripping good time, and there is quite a story to go with it

reply

It wasn't bad. I just got the DVD and I liked it.

One thing I am having trouble with is the guns. What were they supposed to be? They looked like Model 1858 Remington's but the cylinder operated like a modern Double Action revolver and they were shooting DA as well. I know they were supposed to be in another universe but the guns were completely crazy.

There is a way to win with me. If the movie folks gave me 1 million dollars to see their movie, I would be happy as a clam and not make one complaint about the movie, not matter how crappy it may be. Let's make this happen.

Le huh no

We asked for a *good* movie based on the books. I finally saw it as it is on Showtime now. I am glad I didn't waste the money to see it in a theater.

Now, in defense of the filmmakers, it is an incredibly difficult task to condense an epic saga like The Dark Tower series into one or two movies. It would probably work better as a series like Game of Thrones. BUT, to have success anywhere close to GoT, they have to get the casting right (like GoT did in most instances). At least for central and iconic characters, the on-screen portrayal has to ring true to the books.

In addition to miscasting, Dark Tower pretty much cast aside the wonderful story weaved by King. Again, Amazon, which is putting together a Dark Tower series, could learn from GoT here. The GoT show seasons 1-4 were remarkably faithful to the books and was incredibly successful. The show didn't show a drop off in quality until season 5 - after they had exhausted the source material in the books. So, don't try to rewrite a story that is already great.

The Dark Tower book series would be damn near impossible to fully adapt into a TV show, some aspects of the story will have to be dropped or glossed over. But a two hour movie isn't enough time to even begin. Oh it was well acted; Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, and young Tom Taylor did as well as anyone could with the material, but it was just too watered down with too much of the original saga missing. I don't even blame the writers since they were forced to condense King's Magnum Opus down to theatrical length. Wrong format, that's all.

If they can get a series up and running that would be fantastic. Given enough seasons and a good sized budget they might actually do justice to the source material. With all due respect to Amazon Prime though, I'll believe it when they announce a premiere date.
