How can a wire slit someone's throat?

I mean really? Wires aren't sharp objects, they are blunt.

...You're stupid.

Stop and think about this for a second.

Explain it to me please, I thought about it...and if anything you could strangle someone with metal wire (obviously), but not slit someone's throat.

Ever hear of a Garrote? I'll reference the most reputable source on the manner that I can imagine, Deadliest Warrior, to shine more light on the subject.

http://deadliestwarrior.wikia.com/wiki/Garrote_Wire

They only mention it briefly but it's all I can find in a three second google search. Historically, Garrotes can cut if they are the right material and applied with enough force(think of it like a two man saw).

Feel free to tie a hotdog or a carrot or something with a thread, and make it as tight as possible. Once the tension exceeds the force needed to cut the material, it simply cuts. Like a how a bullet imparts more force by concentrating on less less surface, the finer the wire the easier it would be to concentrate the force and actually tear through and cut, which is why rope only strangles, but something very fine yet strong enough to hold the tension(like piano wire, or a metal wire) could actually slice. Still, I don't know if you could really pull it off in less than a second, in the middle of a crowd like in the movie...

@Mtacore: I love you.

Oh, good point! Thanks...I remember that from the Borgias.

Also bikers die with kite string slitting their throat

The close-up at the end clearly shows that the wire is coated - probably diamond dust or similar sharp abrasive.

I'm an electrician. I cut my hands a thousands times with a wire. One time I almost lost one finger because I dragged it very quickly,

Ouch.

Ya, it can to a lot f harm.... U might ve watched when u rub a synthetic silk thead forcefully through ur palm it gives a slight cut which even pains, then imagine if a thread can do this harm , what can a fibre wire do ? it not just pulling the wire through the neck , its pulling & rubbing it through d neck... A fire wire is vry thin material yet hard to break it with bare hands.. well do not experiment it on any 1..

how do u get a cut from a piece of paper? I mean really... paper isnt sharp, and they're pretty flimsy. i dont get it!

wires coated with abrasive are used as wire saws. spy equipment surely would be something exotic like that.

Really, how old are you?

reply

wtf is this real world hahaha i can get cut cut with steel line for fishing let alone assasins build

reply

Try it and come back and tell us what happened.

along a similar line, how can something as "dull" as a whip tear skin apart? there's no diamond dust or anything.

although garrote wire have more to do with a sawing effect, increasing speed of motion does increase speed of cutting through an object.
