all white cast...

first of all, this remake is going to be terrible. i really don't think it's necessary with the old one from the 60s and the one from the 90s that became so undeniably iconic regardless everyone loved it. ALSO, this is a predominantly all white cast...i'm not really understanding why.

You go through cast lists of films and if it's an all white cast you can't relate to it or refuse to watch it? I don't think anyone should rewrite history just to nurture your bloody ego.

Even if there were non-whites in the cast and they were made to look white you would have an issues with that too, no doubt. But newsflash buddy, people in Europe are European. Sorry if you find that offensive.

Just a 100 years ago people in Europe could easily live their whole lives without meeting anyone who wasn't white. Do you understand why the cast is white now?!

..be nice.

People should not be hired for the sake of being hired because they're white or black. The person hired for the job should be the most qualified whether they are white, black, or purple.

This "we need to have diversity" is getting ridiculous to the point of reverse discrimination. No one utters a word about Tyler Perry's shows/movies even though they are predominantly black. This country needs to stop giving free hand-outs and people...whether they're white, black, brown, purple, or red, need to realize that you need to work hard for what you want.

Is this a troll thread? Romeo & Juliet was set in Italy, with an all-Italian cast. While there was a small foreign "Moorish" community (mostly Arab & Berber traders) in Italy at the time, I don't remember any foreign characters in the book. If this was Othello, then I can understand, but there's no reason why Romeo & Juliet needs any non-white characters.

The story takes place in Italy. 99% of the Italian population is Caucasian. Historical accuracy is more important than political correctness. Get over it.

This movie was set in Italy in the 1500s so of course its a white cast, just like a movie set in samurai era Japan would have an all-Asian cast (except for Tom Cruise). This is not adapted to modern times and different settings.

Though if you wanted a more diverse cast, we can have an adaptation about two Mexican drug cartels, or two black street gangs fighting each other in Chicago.

It was actually pretty unrealistic to have black characters in historically set movies like 300 or Gladiator (I was not aware that Ancient Rome extended into sub-Saharan Africa. North Africa is Arabic people).

This is not a remake.

Agreed.

ALSO, this is a predominantly all white cast...i'm not really understanding why.

There were only white people in 16th century Italy.

I agree. I love color-blind casting if you're making a film about a historical figure, IE. Ray, Johnny Cash. But Mercutio played by Harold Perineau was my favorite performance for that role. He nailed it like Leo nailed it as Romeo and Claire as Juliet. John Leguizamo as Tybalt, fab. Ed Westwick from gossip girl is the only choice that makes sense. He could play any of the male leads as far as I can see. But, the film has been made and I'll have to check it out. Never judge until you've viewed. That's my motto.

What does it matter what colour the cast is?
