Driven remake

The plot synopsis is exactly the same as Sylvester Stallone's Driven from 2001. A retired driver comes back to help team owner mentor and boost up and coming rookie.

Driven was entertaining, and judging on a curve from Stallone's career at that point, it's one of his best from the 2000's. Stallone had a slew of flops and DTV films after this. The main weakness of the film was hiring that hack Renny Harlin to direct, and the film being panned by critics and audiences showed that Harlin was a one-hit wonder with Cliffhanger, as the team of Harlin/Stallone couldn't repeat the thrills a second time.

This Driven Remake is promising because not only will the special effects be better, but Joseph Kosinski is the director, and he has proven he is no hack, but rather a very capable film maker. I loved both Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, and obviously Top Gun Maverick was amazing also.

The only question is whether it will be as big a flop as Driven was. Remember Driven only managed about 55 million on a 95 million budget. Probably closer to 150 million budget if you factor in marketing. The irony is that Driven was originally going to be about F1 but the producers couldn't get the licensing rights to use F1 in the movie so they swapped to Indy Cars... they also pretty much did so without bothering to rewrite the script because at that time F1 cars did continue to race in the wet while Indy cars never raced in the wet and would pull the cars in during rain for safety reasons. But Driven kept their wet race sequence which made the movie more ridiculous... My money is on F1 being a bigger flop than Driven.
