No 4k 3D home release

Because the studios dropped it for UHD. The 2k 3D is gonna suck in comparison.

reply

Im perfectly fine watching it in 1080p

reply

It's 540p by 2.

Not according to Wikipedia (translated from Finnish):

Most of the Blu-ray 3D material is compressed at the 1080p/24 level and a separate 1920x1080 pixel image is produced for both eyes. The separate images are joined to the video stream on top of each other and an empty area of 45 pixels is left in between, resulting in a single 1920x2205 pixel image. The material is disassembled on TV or in a video project back into two different images, which are shown alternately at a total frame rate of 48 fps.

This may apply to active shutter 3D glasses that require batteries. Most people own passive 3D glasses and I can clearly see the lower resolution.

reply

If its a question of glasses, wouldn't this apply also to 4K UHD 3D releases then if they existed?

I thought glasses only blocked the image which isn't supposed to be seen by the other eye. Does these glasses have a resolution also?

reply

Don't know but 4K 3D would still be looking better.

reply

540 x 2 = 1080

reply

It's only reduced resolution like 540p when you download a pirate 3D movie and it is 3DSBS or OU, etc. Real 3D Bluray disks have 2 full resolution video streams. For the 3D parts one full resolution video stream is displayed to the left eye and one full resolution stream to the right eye. For the 2D parts one full resolution video stream is displayed to both eyes.

Like I said, I can tell the resolution is much lower on passive 3D tv sets. And the majority of 3d tv sets are passive because of the lower cost for the glasses.

reply

Also not on Disney Plus.

reply

Aided 3D always suck.
