basic Avatar premise ignored?
In Avatar 1, the basic premise of the Avatar program is that the avatars are created from the avatar driver's own DNA, thus allowing them to link to each other via the linking chambers. Thus, the avatars must be operated by a DNA compatible human via the linking chamber to operate in the world of Pandora. The N'vi have the capability to transfer a human avatar driver's consciousness to his/her avatar via a religious rite in which the human must pass thru "the eye of Ewah", such as Jake Sully did at the end of Avatar 1, to (I assume) leave behind the human body of the driver and become permanently ensconced in their avatar body.
However, Avatar 2 gives us a group of "evil" avatars, that while they may have been created by the military from DNA of their respective owners, are still nonetheless avatars that need to be operated by drivers that are DNA matches...OR...have somehow been allowed to pass thru "the eye of Ewah" to become resident in their Avatar bodies. I have a really serious problem with either of these scenarios.
If the evil avatars are being driven by human DNA matches, why are we not told or shown that, or told how the DNA matches of the drivers came to be? Are they clones of the original humans that died in Avatar 1? Where are the linking chambers that the evil avatar drivers use explained? The labs on Pandora are controlled and protected by the humans that chose to remain after all the rest of the humans were evicted at the end of Avatar 1 and who are still in control at the opening of Avatar 2. Are the military linking labs in space around Pandora? How far does the link between the avatar and the human driver extend? Could a driver exist on Earth and drive an avatar on Pandora? In which case, why send avatar drivers 7 years into space to drive their avatars on Pandora? Obviously some close proximity to Pandora's surface is required for the link between human drivers and their avatars is required.
And, if the evil avatars do NOT have human drivers, that means that somehow, some N'vi religious leader led the rite to allow the humans to pass thru the "eye of Ewah" and I have a very, very hard time accepting that any N'vi religious leader would do this or the Ewah would allow any human to pass thru her eye that had obvious intent to harm her many treasured children. This is a very, VERY big hole in the plot of Avatar 2, IMO, and while I have watched the movie 2x now, it still bugs me, as it did almost immediately the 1st time I watched it. I mean, it's obvious (to me anyway), that this aspect of the film was glossed over from the very beginning, perhaps hoping fans wouldn't notice this glaring continuity problem from the first film to the second.
