Yes it really is a shame. I enjoyed what he produced for the first Avatar film.

No kidding! The tone and ambient music is going to be so different without him, music soundtracks can quite often be underestimated by filmmakers, hopefully Cameron found a good replacement.

He's hired Simon Franglen, who was a James Horner underling and finished his score to The Magnificent Seven and the Pandora: The World of Avatar theme-park music. Seems Cameron reckons he's up to the job.
