Weird that Sony is pretending the writers didn't know about true event

THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!

I don't mind them making a comedy based on a tragedy, but why lie about it? Sony is out in full force declaring the writers only vaguely knew of the actual event and that it isn't mirrored in that at all. Of course it is! All the facts match- pizza delivery guy, bomb, a prostitute was involved in the actual events...they wanted the bank robbery money to hire a hitman to kill the guy's father for an inheritance. All the basic facts from the true events are in the film, so it's silly and absurd to even pretend the writers didn't have deep knowledge of the actual events, when they so clearly did.

I had brought up the real life events of the man who had the bomb strapped to him at work and no one had ever heard of it. Then I brought it up at a party and only two people knew about it. So it is possible for people to not know about it.

I watched this movie last weekend. I thought it was pretty funny, but I had never heard about the real-life events until I came to this message board this morning.
