Weird that Sony is pretending the writers didn't know about true event

THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!

I don't mind them making a comedy based on a tragedy, but why lie about it? Sony is out in full force declaring the writers only vaguely knew of the actual event and that it isn't mirrored in that at all. Of course it is! All the facts match- pizza delivery guy, bomb, a prostitute was involved in the actual events...they wanted the bank robbery money to hire a hitman to kill the guy's father for an inheritance. All the basic facts from the true events are in the film, so it's silly and absurd to even pretend the writers didn't have deep knowledge of the actual events, when they so clearly did.

What a stupid response , why do you care to make comments on anything ? are you really really that thick , your on a message board asking why people care to post about stuff? , what is it your after exactly..attention ?

we have to look at your whiny ass posts about non real silly stuff , A show ending..someones singing , ect , And you have the non brain functioning cheek to ask other people.. why do you care ? Give your mom her PC back you air hijacker

I agree, totally idiotic response. With that attitude why post about anything at all outside the narrow limits of your own loser life?

I too think Sony are speaking through their ample posterior, probably guided by their lawyers in case some relative of the people involved in the real incident sue them. Easier for them to lie but you'd have to be a moron (somebody just like iddgd1 in fact) to actually believe them.

That's really low of them. I think it's really low of them to turn it into a comedy anyway. It hasn't been that long and it must be fairly well-known because I remember hearing the true story, and I'm in my early 20s and Australian! I think it's pretty gross a film is based on a real tragic true event, and even worse that the viewing public judging by this board knows and doesn't care. Yuck.

He was but I think he was the victim of worse people and it's very soon to make light of it. I didn't realise it was only in 2003!

Never minding your wrong and ignorant ideas that the man somehow "deserves" to be mocked, or that it "doesn't matter" if the writers and producers are liars.

It rubs some people wrong that in an industry that rips off EVERYTHING and makes even the most vaguely true stories put in front of them "based on a true story".

Why? Why in this industry fanatical about intellectual property and ascribing credits to everyone so that the final credits of films last 15 minutes, are they lying about this one film?

It's fascinating if only because it's so odd. Why this time? Why this film? Who the hell are the writers and producers trying to bullsh!t? Do they refuse to pay for the distribution rights?

And I don't care if you're not interested, what's hypocritical is to care enough to write "who cares" you obviously have some emotional investment. Or you wouldn't even post. Your troll instincts are too strong. And your ignorance is off the chart because you seem to think people only care about the things you care about, so you need to remind us we have to have the same opinion as you.

I agree that this movie was unnecessary.

To avoid controversy I suppose.

I have no problem with the movie. It would be awkward to make a true to life mockumentary, because that guy doesn't exactly deserve sympathy, nor hate. Instead they make a light hearted comedy that does decently well in the box office. I enjoyed it, I love the cast. The story was ok.

Here is the story the movie is supposedly NOT based on.
