Will this flop hurt Vin Diesels career?

First of all I don't get all the haters who just bash on an actor because of the way he talks and acts. I liked Vin ever since I saw his first movie Pitch Black. I also admire his passion for the films he stars in and helps produce. Although I'm not a fan and never was of witches, I wanted the movie to do well so it could further help Vin concentrate on other projects like his life's dream Hannibal the Conqueror. It kinda sucks that he is stuck to the Fast and Furious franchise since this was always his main box office machine. I believe Vin can open well other movies that are not Furious based cause his record shows he can. XXX was entertaining but not special, Riddick franchise while not being able to open well at the box-office, still managed to make money on home media and the games contributed to that. I think he should learn his lesson and not waste any of his time on films like the Last Witch Hunter and focus on his serious roles and hire good directors for films like Kojak, Hannibal. He should prioritize those roles over another Fast 8 and XXX3. HANNIBAL AND KOJAK have a good potential to be huge hits if given the right director and script

One can hope.

Haha beat me to it!

It's probably going to hurt his career in terms of him being able to produce non-franchise/non-sequel movies. In terms of his overall career he'll probably be fine. He still has 3 more F&F films to do plus a third XXX film. If XXX 3 does well I would guess that they will do more sequels to it. He also has The Guardians of the Galaxy movies to work on. And he may or may not be working on more Riddick sequels. I think Kojak is a mistake for him though. I would be pretty surprised if that did well at the box office.

Let's be honest:How long since Diesel has had a hit which was not an ensebmle film?

On his own, Diesel is not longer a draw. Without the F an F frachise,Diesel would be in DTV territory:just another washed up action star.

reply

You again. The hater of Vin. Fast and Furious is still his movie. He is and always was the prime star of the franchise and a producer.

Please read that sentence again. Seriously. I'd think that not liking a way that an actor ACTS is the PERFECT reason to not like an actor, the definition of which is literally "Someone that acts".

reply

The word 'act' has more than one meaning, I imagine he meant 'acts' as in 'behaves'.

Or, maybe not.

I saw this yesterday and have always liked the way Vin Diesel talks never thought anything was wrong with his voice. he and Rose Leslie made a pg 13 film better then I thought it could be. if this did bomb it will not hurt his career long term in fact a sequel is already planned and listed here

No. Vin Diesel is not your typical star. He has had a lot of mediocre or flop films and keeps on going. This is because he is in a combination of ensemble films and self financed vanity projects. He basically makes the stuff he likes to make (Riddick has never been very successful, but he makes them when he can). I am sure he was hoping to have a new franchise out of this, but he will just keep on making the stuff he likes and getting case here and there.

I admire that in any actor or actress, director or writer making the films THEY WANT

I really feel the same way as the OP - Pitch Black is one of my favorite movies too. So is Fast 5 actually. Anyway, this is a film Vin WANTED to make - a lot! And it sucked, and that's sad.

I see a lot of people on these boards liked it, which is nice, I'm glad Vin and the crew's work has given some people enjoyment. But the general consensus is it's pretty bad and boring.

I could have handled it being weak, but I was disappointed it was boring. The action scenes were really short, awful and bad - this is very important because this sold itself as an action film. I didn't want more explosions or loud noises, but fights that said something about the characters. Vin throws his sword into the witch at the end. What does this say? I think it says that the witch wasn't very strong and Vin's lucky he has such a special sword.

Compare this to fight scenes in Game of Thrones or Fast and Furious, where the action tells the story.

I love magic, but you can't just show me a bunch to stupid butterflies flying around a blind guy who speaks some mystical garbage and expect me to be entertained.

Make the action scenes longer too, you could blink and miss them. Where did the budget go? On the jars of butterflies and animated trees?

I blame the director the most, then the writer, also the producers and also Vin for not stepping up and saying "let's give this film more punch!". How about a test screening while you've still got a spare 5 mill from the 70 mill budget and say "this needs another action scene". That worked for Mortal Kombat - see the reptile fight scene at the end.

well I hope Vin will learn his lesson and move on to other roles that define who he is. A drama action hero. all hope of a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter were extinguished due to the abysmal performace at the box office.

Hopefully. He is a terrible actor but as the poster above me wrote, F&F will keep him afloat.

Pitch Black was his best movie as far as I'm concerned. The Fast and the Furious was probably second best. Everything else has just been downhill in terms of quality in my opinion.

reply

Na come on, Fast 5 and Furious 7 were pretty good fun! And made a lot of money and have had good critical review. I just wish Vin kept up quality throughout his projects.

reply

No. People will just forget about this movie.
