Say what you will about the movie, but the world building is amazing

I do recall that the movie didn't quite work for me the first time I watched it - I rated it a six at the time. Passing grade, but flawed. But I've since had reason to watch it again, and then again, and damn. You need to watch this several times, and really pay attention, to start to unpack it all. It feels like it's been adapted from a novel, or a series of novels. There's too rich a universe here for just one movie, and I think that may have been the reason why it somewhat failed as a single movie: too much to take in all at once.

The thing is, though, this is a great universe to play around in, and there should be more. Movies, or comic books maybe. Something. It would be a tragic waste if this world were entirely abandoned.

The movie is definitely worth a rewatch, it's too packed to watch it just once.

Unfortunately, for Warner it makes no sense to release anything JA related I'm afraid, including comic books, as they want to distance themselves from their recent stream of box office flops: JA, Pan, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., In the Heart of Sea.

Totally agree with you. The first time I watched it I had quite mixed feelings but I've watched it several times since then and it's grown on me. The universe created is amazing and very well designed. I honestly think it's really underrated. I wish there were more stories, even in book form to explore this universe

Yes, the universe behind it was very interesting and wish the Wachowski's had expanded it prior to the movies release with comix/animation [similar to the Animatrix series] and further explanation of the mostly robotic people [like advocate Bob] were they straight up robots or humans with alot of implants?

Wasn't too keen with their society being royalty/caste based and too much animal/human crossbreeding bizarrness for my taste [kinda gave up at the elephantine 'Ganesh' pilot trumpeting like a, well, baby elephant] since it crosses into more fantasy than sci-fi.

7 billion humans= 70 million canisters of ReGenX. is that a lot?...lol

Been rewatching it and it kinda grows on you, like a fungus.

reply

I'd say Bob was 100% robot.

reply

Yeah probably since there was an exact other looking 'bob' with different color hair while Jupiter was going through the process of becoming an entitled heir

I just LOVE the fact that humans came from another planet and were seeded on Earth by other humans..... So we are not unique at all.

Humans evolved across the universe.

I agree there is a lot to take in on 1st viewing but I don't think that is the same as good world building. I think they got carried away with the process and self-indulgently added detail upon detail at the expense of telling the story.

this, this, and this again.

"shiny, pretty" is worthless when it serves no purpose to the story

reply

Word building? You're crazy, hahahaha.

reply

The worldbuilding is nonsensical but the visual style look interesting.
