Leo needs to break his habits..

It seems as though ever since the Departed Leo has been carrying along the same acting traits from character to character. I saw this trailer and he is doing the same squinty eyed, whispering line delivery that he did in the Departed, Inception, Shutter Island, and Body of Lies. He is doing the same serious eye-brow frown that he has done is his characters since the Departed. I like Leo especially in Gilbert Grape, the Aviator, and the Departed but it seems as though he has been doing the same thing since the Departed as far as how he portrays characters. Anyone else notice this?

I think most great actors wind up doing this. Sad, but true. Even DeNiro has the same lame mannerisms and personality in every film.

I realized this truth when i was watching Inception. The part in the movie where his wife jumps from the balcony and he screams out and cries seemed like deja vu to me.. I kept thinking i've seen/heard this before from Leo..

I challenge his fans who say that he displays versatility to prove me wrong. First watch the inception scene maybe a few times and then go back and watch Titanic, shutter island, the departed, etc.. Look for the scenes where he shouts, screams and cries, you'll find undeniable parallels..

Its leo playing those roles as leo.. Every character reacts with a different level of emotional show but his is the same.

reply

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the same thing.

He's overrated,IMHO.

Marry me,Bob Gunton!

reply

IMO since Blood Diamond, it seems he tries to, I don't know, over act I.e. trying to snag that Oscar.
Its all good cause most of his movies are on my favorites list.

What's that, lord? Its okay to eat meat and beer and cheese? Alright I'll tell her

reply

That's all Dicraprio has going for him. He better squint the hell out of that brow and milk it for all it's worth.

reply

All it is, is that he's such a big star sometimes you can't help but notice him in his roles. It's the same for all A-list actors. Go into the movie with your imagination and it'll do wonders for performances.

I am you and what I see is me.

reply

LOL! You just admitted that his acting is so bad that all you personally see is a "big star".

No, it is not "the same for all A-list actors". Many of them can actually ACT.

reply

LOL.

Marry me,Bob Gunton!

reply

This is what makes Leo, Leo! How dare you!

Leo, don't listen to this troll!

reply

To quote the lion... "put em up"

reply

How about Will Smith stop acting like that loveable black guy for a chance? Break yo' habits.

reply

Actually, yes it is prisoner.

I am you and what I see is me.

This thread is so ridiculous!

I would not change anything about Leo's face, expressions, voice, or anything about him, really! He has the most expressive and handsome face in this industry. There is no one else who can convey what his character is feeling, like Leo does.

Like I have said before, NO ONE, NO ACTOR "changes" as some people here, are claiming.

reply

I agree for the most part lady-a. Leo just takes the brunt of these types of threads due to his previous hearthrob status.

I am you and what I see is me.

bottom line, if you want to see some versatile acting, look up Gary oldman. I

reply

Gary Oldman is overrated.

A movie is not about what it's about; it's about how it's about it. - Roger Ebert

Gary oldman is a phenominal actor but he is not versatile than leonardo dicaprio. If you want an eccentric character to played well? Go to Gary Oldman.

I am you and what I see is me.

reply

I agree, I think he's a great actor an all but lately I have noticed a very samey pattern in terms of performance and the type of films he's doing. It's like he's just screaming out for an Oscar doing all this surly, serious stuff. He should lighten up or choose a different type of role.

Take no crap. Be your own person. .

Gary Oldman is way more versatile than Leonardo DiCaprio. Who else could possibly go from playing such characters as Sid Vicious, Dracula, Drexl Spivey, Stansfield, Sirius Black, Commissioner Gordon and George Smiley and be totally believable in every role? Leo couldn't even pull off J. Edgar Hoover.

reply

He's been picking his nose a lot recently too, i think he wants to bring the normal side to his characters but is failing terribly, does anyone else notice this???

reply

Leonardo is the same guy in every movie!

reply

Finally!

It's about time someone pointed this out.

Marry me,Bob Gunton!

reply

Yes, he does have his mannerisims. On the other hand I didn't think it hurt the role. Mind that I have never seen any original videos from J. Edgar. Nonetheless I consider Leo to be the best actor of his generation. I mean who could compete with him?
