A bit fascist?

What was the point of portraying the government as entirely fascist? Extra judicial killings, torture, etc...?

Shock value? Or is it just taken for granted that this happens given contemporary cynicism?

Intelligence services. They sometimes act outside the law.

The needed the information on the laptop bomb right away, due process was not an option.

Killing the girl made her simply gone, not someone the IRA would use as an excuse for continued bombings until released.

Yeah, we understand the reasons. Justifying fascism doesn’t make it less fascist though.

Still fascist.

Does my dictionary have a different definition for the term fascism than yours?

It's not justifying fascism. It's explaining why they went to such desperate measures to save as many people as possible to reduce civilian casualties.

I, too, was a bit shocked at the fact that the film had no qualms depicted intelligence services going to such lengths to save the day, but it was a bit refreshing that they knew they were dealing with a terrorist threat and spared no measure to resolve the situation.

More than anything, if enforcement agencies were further depicted as not giving quarter to terrorism, a lot more people would think twice about even being roped into terrorist acts.

Well, they did tone it down a lot from the book. The book ended with a list of people associated with the IRA to be murdered by the government.
