It's funny what you notice during rewatchings.

I was rewatching Season six, episode seven, the one where Charlie Rogers dies. The Crawleys later have dinner and spend the night at Rosamund's. A point comes when Henry Talbot telephones Mary and Tom encourages her to take the call. While she was on the phone, I found myself paying less attention to the conversation (since I heard it before) and more attention to the sculpture sitting beside the telephone. It was this half-cat, half-woman thing with large breasts. I'm sure it was inspired by the Egyptian sphynx, but it looked creepy. I know its just a show, and that was set decoration, but since it was supposed to be Rosamund's home, I thought are we supposed to believe Rosamund bought that? Or maybe her late hubby Marmaduke, or maybe it was a wedding present to the both of them.... like I said, its funny what you notice, and think about when you are rewatching.

Given the Egyptian connection of Highclare--the Carnarvons, King Tut--they might have tossed that in. I think Robert and Cora's honeymoon tour included Egypt, and of course, the dogs.

King Tut's tomb had just been discovered in 1922, and Egyptian decor was the chicest thing going - Rosamund would surely have had such items in her home.

I totally remember this scene, and thinking the same thing. The statue seemed unusually large and out of place.

I don't remember seeing that statue, but it sounds like it was supposed to be the Egyptian goddess Bastet.
The 1920s had a big Ancient Egypt trend going on after the discovery of Tutankhamon's tomb.

Half cat, half woman, with large breasts...

Yeah, I'd do that.
