If someone from the 2090s were to travel back to our current era

in a similar fashion to this movie, what artists do you think will appear, either as representative of contemporary cultures or as pioneers? I can think of Darren Aronofsky, Chris Nolan, and Julian Casablancas.

Depends on where the person from 2090's visit. For directors don't forget Guillermo del Toro. For art, I would say Bansky, Jun Kaneko, Kara Walker and Glenn Brown. But these are just artists I like the work of.

^ A wise assessment.

I have no suggestions, but this is a really thought-provoking question. All I can say is that I hope the woman who wrote Twilight isn't one of them!

If someone from the future comes to interact with that woman, it would be a killer cyborg who looks like Arnold and whose mission is terminate her.

It's a sad day in the world when people consider Christopher Nolan to be an "artist". The guy directs Batman movies. Gimme a break. Yeah yeah, Memento was innovative, but it still drags. And he's done nothing worthwhile since.

And Julian Casablancas? The Strokes are a good band, but Is This It? was really the best thing they've done, and even that is overrated. They really aren't all that special. If you want to talk about musicians worth visiting, how about Radiohead?

It is really sad that I cannot think of many for the 2000s. Yes, to Jobs and Gates. Maybe a famous director (Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg)) or singing artist (Josh Groban)? This is a great question. Wish I could think of some more.

Exactly what generation hasn't had "hacks who exploit the culture rather than contribute to it?" That doesn't mean there aren't those who manage to collaborate and produce something worthwhile, even if they go relatively unnoticed at the time. It's really a question of what you're into and how history will romanticize things down the road.

It seems rather ridiculous to write off an entire generation (or two) simply because you personally have no contemporary heroes. If you are a representative of Gen X or Y(?), then to paraphrase Hemingway's commentary in the film, You're too self-effacing; it's not manly. If you're of a certain generation, declare yours the best generation. If you're younger, you lack the life experience to even know what you're talking about. If you're older, that would make you a baby-boomer, and who cares what you think?

The dead celebrities portrayed in the film, while certainly well known during their own time, weren't necessarily the household names they have become, and I doubt the average person had any idea that they were all acquainted until years or decades after the fact. So, who knows what you are missing out on right now that future generations will mock you for ignoring…

...more over, that was kind of the point of the movie. ...not to romanticize the past while ignoring or dismissing the present.

Since art has become such a widely spread and distributed thing nowadays thanks to internet, I don't think there will be people who will be remembered from this era. We live in a remix-era, we take what has been done before and tweak it a little. There aren't really prevalent radical styles or cultures anymore. It's become a melting pot of individualism.

Don't get me wrong, there's good stuff made, but nothing earth shattering.

It really isn't about who so much as where.
Is there currently any single place on Earth that gathers a collection of artists
as Paris in the 20's?
