it's amazing how they managed to fuck this up

it's literally a one for one remake and they couldnt even do it right. the frame rate is horrible in this. they practically traced the characters and somehow they look worse than the old ones. the intro song is off too somehow. the fuck is up with storm's hair? she was suppose to be this sophisticated african, not some punk. this is another disgusting nostalgic money grab by disney.

reply

They made some slight changes to the intro song. Storm's hair change is lifted directly from the comics it doesn't make me think any less of her. The animation was always choppy but is much improved here. I don't think it's striving for 'Arcane' level animation quality on purpose. Disney is guilty of many many shameless cash grabs but this is not one of them.

reply

how is this not a cash grab? how did they improve on the original show? the animation isnt even better. what was the point of a remake?

reply

Nostalgia is potent & bankable. This show cuts deep for some. I can only judge by the first 2 eps but so far I'm pumped for the next 8.

Well do you want better animation or the old animation? Make up your mind. The animation here is better. A mix of old and new techniques. As for Storms hair, this is a year later and Storm does eventually adopt this style in the comics. I'm surprised you didn't bitch that the only voice actors to return were those of Wolverine/Rogue and Storm with Storm being the only one sounding exactly like she used to and the other two noticably different. 😂

At any rate think of it like the comics. When the comics change artists and writers after certain runs they continue the story but it looks different.

This new show continues the storyline of the original exactly after the events of the last episode. Also keep in mind Season 5 of the original show had a new cheaper animation studio work on the last several episodes. So they had a different look as well.

Also how is the intro song off??? Did you actually watch the old show all the way through. Because the last iteration of the them song they used there was horrible. The one here is far better...

I haven't seen it yet, 9.1 on IMDB.

The people have spoken.

I hate Disney too because they exclusively produce garbage these days, and I FULLY expected this to suck mutie balls, but I’m pleasantly surprised!

The animation is by far the worst thing about it. It’s so fucking cheap looking. There’s no defending it. Moving on!

PROS: I am shocked Cyclops has come off so well. That-and that alone-is an improvement on the original. I expected them to make Scott look dumb in an effort to make Storm look better, but they actually made them both look great.

I’m an X-Men expert and this story feels unpredictable. It’s similar to TAS in that I can see where they’re mixing and matching elements from but I don’t know where they’re going with it. I like that.

Of the characters with new looks:

1) Magneto looks fucking terrible. The giant M costume never looked good but the Bon Jovi hairdo really makes it look ultra stupid.

2) Morph’s new svelte look is out-matched in retardedness only by his voice. He looks more like the Exiles morph, but not in a good way. They really are taking too many liberties with him. A character named “Morph” should change, sure, but he’s so far off-model that he’s no longer the same Morph from TAS.

3) Storm’s haircut does look dumb with her white Jim Lee costume. The mohawk is from the comics, yeah, but it only looks good with certain costumes. It’d look better if her costume was the black version from the Fall of the Mutants era. Although, the voice actress sounds so creaky and old, the mohawk probably wouldn’t feel right.

4) At least Bishop got a good haircut.

Voices: I really miss the original voices for Magneto and Scott. Jean Grey’s original actress now voices Valerie Cooper and she sounds like she wouldn’t be able to pull off the Jean voice nowadays. I heartily miss Jubilee’s original voice. What a dumb move, caving to some vague PC bullshit before anyone even complained. And Sunspot can’t act for shit.

Overall, I’m happy. The animation sucks but the show is pretty good.

I just don't get why most western animation looks like fucking trash these days.

Listen, I hate Disney too and think they’ve ruined everything they’ve touched, but every argument of yours is plain wrong, except about the framerate. 97 is not a remake at all, it’s a new season. It hasn’t remade any storyline from TAS. Is season 2 or any show a remake of season 1? Of course not. Storm’s look, like most comic characters that are decades old, changes over time. A lot. If you don’t like her mohawk, you’ll really hate the outfit she wore with it in the comics. I groaned at the mohawk too even though I liked it in the comic, because it was an important character development for Storm in the comic; it wasn’t just a new hairdo. But by the end of the show they’ve put her in her best, most timeless look.

Now, there are valid complaints about the show (iffy animation, blowing through decades worth of story way too fast, Magento’s creepy lips) but none of them add up to cash grab. How much money do you think this is even making Disney? Everything they touches turns to shit. Except this. I hope it has made them money but I doubt it, given how corrupt the business model is and how corrupt showbiz accounting is.

I understand your reaction as a non-comics fan but as a comics fan I have to disagree.

i actually only saw one episode and i assumed it would be the same. maybe i'll watch it later.
