I've always been a huge fan of his, but I'm sort of scared to watch this movie because I don't want to be disappointed. Am I going to see bits of 'Harry' when I'm watching or does Dan totally transform for the role?
I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.
I can't wait to see it. I've been meaning to buy the movie, but always chicken out because of the reasons I stated. But now that it's on TV I can watch it first and then buy it lol. I'm also excited to see him in the other roles he has coming up as well; the new one with Elizabeth Olsen looks promising.

I find it hard to believe he's as old as he's meant to be or that he has a son. There is a scene where he's sipping from a brandy glass where he simply looks too young to be that sophisticated, but apart from that he does a very good job. I did not see him as Potter for one moment. He made the role his own and truly broke out from the Harry Potter world.
He's a lot better in my boy jack. He didn't look like Potter in the Woman in Black, but he didn't show much talent either. It didn't help that his role was rather two dimensional, not a really deep character. hello good sir!

I couldn't help seeing him as a grown-up Harry for the first few minutes. After all, that's the only other thing I'd seen him in. But after that, I think he becomes and owns the role.

Gray, I wrote to you privately about that and The Woman in Black remake, since I couldn't figure out whether to post the latter on this board or the 1989 version board :)
Going from only ever seeing him as Harry Potter to watching him in this, first time round I had to switch off, I just kept seeing him as HP. Gave it six months or so, watched it again deliberately telling myself to forget his as HP and found him amazing in it. He's still young and he plays a young father and I think that helps move him from wizard/kid role to something more adult, and if you just go with it he's very talented and nothing HP'ish at all in this role. Very adult and grown up and impressive and I look forward to seeing what he will be cast as next.
I thought he did a great job. Most of his acting was actually reacting with emotion in his face and expressions. Also, to those saying he's too young to drink brandy, it's a period piece. At the turn of the century there were no laws like there are today and he was obviously a young lawyer. People also got married and had kids much younger especially in Europe (England) which is the setting for this film. He looks to be about 25 or so in this film.
At some points of this movie I thought "What does it take to get an emotion from this guy"?
I mean, jeez, a person in real life would freak out and Daniels character just stood there. Was the character really supposed to be that badass and emotionless?
