Rose Byrne made me turn it off...

I know this isn't fair, but I just couldn't watch this because of how horribly skinny she was...it was distracting. Especially as a brand new mother? She'd just had a new baby, so why did she look like a skeleton? Women tend to gain weight during pregnancy, and while it's perfectly normal to exercise to get rid of some of the baby weight after, I've never seen a woman go from baby weight to bone thin like that...it just didn't seem right.

It was like the director just ignored it, when he should've pulled her aside before filming and said "look Rose, I don't want to insult you, but you're playing the part of a brand new mother with two other very small children, it would be natural and expected for you to have some meat on your bones...you're too skinny, go eat a few cheeseburgers." Actors change their weight to suit a movie role all the time, so why couldn't she at least pack on a few extra pounds to make her part believable? I know she doesn't have kids herself, so it's probably very easy for her to walk around all skinny in a movie role, but if you're going to play a mother of 3 small children, you should at least look like you've had kids. Jesus.

It's probably a good movie, but I just couldn't get through it...every time Rose Byrne came onscreen looking like Skeletor it made me want to vomit.

Did you see that baby? She was not a brand new mother. That little girl was at least 6 months old and probably closer to 9. That said, would she be that skinny? Probably not, but with so many months to dedicate, it could unfeasibly happen.

It wasn't just the small baby, she was a mother of 3 small kids...most mother's of multiple children I've seen are not that skinny, their bodies have carried so much extra weight and they're at such an age where metabolism slows down and it becomes harder to work off baby weight, and they at least show some signs of weight gain...Byrne's character was like a walking skeleton, and it was not established that she had an eating disorder or something, so it made it very very hard for me to watch. I just couldn't believe the filmmakers were asking me buy that bag of skin and bones as a mother of 3 small children. She looked more like a typical Hollywood actress who has no kids (Byrne doesn't in real life) and is obsessed with staying rail thin, not a middle class mother of 3...as I said I'm probably being unfair, but I just couldn't shake my disgust...she just didn't look right to me...it was grossing me out.

My cousin had two children less than 12 months apart and she always stayed about Byrne's size before and after both pregnancies. And she eats like a pig, too. People's bodies are always different.

This is so dumb. Some women are just skinny. OP, you've really never seen a thin mother of 3 before?? And you're so bent out of shape about it you had to turn off the movie? Lol.

reply

Actually i hate skinny women, because they remind me of my ex - but this one was quite nice.

And I like the way she acts in one of the first few scenes - " he was standing there , he was just there !!!!"

Darkness lies an inch ahead

reply

You HATE skinny women? Just because of your ex? How old are you, now?

I could make a fat joke right now but that's being equally rude.

She's unlikely to bother to put on weight for this 1.5 million movie when she's probably got a supporting role in some 100 dollar blockbuster where she needs her look. It's not like she bothered acting very well either lol.

I'm sure there are plenty of skinny mums out there, but they usually have crazy wrinkles on there face from what i've seen...

reply

Yea, this is a pretty ridiculous reason to stop watching a movie. Besides the fact that plenty of moms are skinny! My sister is a mom and one of the smallest women I've ever met (without having an eating disorder)

reply

Man, you said it. Her and her husband were comical in this movie.

100 dollar blockbuster? I'm guessing it's not special effects driven lol. Sorry, had to pick that out

LoL glad you enjoyed I knew what the poster meant, but it was just too easy.

I have known women who have had several children, some very close in age, who stay very skinny and barely gain any weight, especially here in Europe. It's just genes. Some people have very good metabolisms. Some women actually take care of themselves during pregnancy and don't gorge themselves on crap just because they're pregnant. That that is the one thing that stopped you from watching the movie is odd to me. Sounds like a twinge of jealousy, if I didn't know any better.

The journey was terrible...the trip was alright
