This was so goddamn predictable

As soon as Patrick Wilson’s character appeared at the beginning I was pretty sure he was the bad guy, but when he mentioned being Liam Neeson’s ex-partner I knew he was the bad guy.

I agree 100%.

Its weird, isn't it? In the minutes that Wilson's "sympathetic" former partner revealed these things -- and acted so "nice" to Liam - you just KNEW that he'd be some sort of bad guy, and the thriller plot hasn't even started yet.

I said to my watching companion, "Well, everything about this character tells me he's going to be a bad guy -- I guess the real surprise would be if he ISN'T."

Though it was also predictable, the movie at least tried to work up some suspense based on our knowledge of previous movies -- is the "bad cop" going to be Wilson? Or boss Sam Neill? Or BOTH of them? But even THAT was predictable.

Bottom line: a lot of thrillers these days get greenlighted even if "we've seen it all before." That's how it used to be with Westerns and cop movies, anyway.
