Do you Americans actually know ANYTHING about other countries?

It's ridiculous how we're in 2013 and this still happens in American movies. England is not the United Kingdom, it's a part of it. The United Kingdom is made up of smaller "states" like the United States. Surely it's not that difficult to understand guys. It would be like a British (or any other movie from another nation) referring to the entire United States as Ohio, or Florida.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland = United Kingdom

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland =/= England

Do they not teach geography or politics in American High Schools?

Don't you hate it when a signature looks like part of the post?

This is why we call you Euro-trash.

reply

you're not aware of the word americ_u-n_t that's one I've heard used by Euro Trash.

not that I'd insult America, because as euro-trash I have an open mind, I respect the beauty of the US and I don't hate entire nations of people based on a few rude Americans. But this movie is stupid, Americans think they know everything, but they don't and it shows when they think England is London and Wales is a town in London and all that silliness.

That's all well and good if you haven't heard of us, the tiny irrelevant island. While you call us Euro-Trash, we will laugh at how the internet was invented by us and not you, the same goes with a vast amount of modern literature that helped inspire bad Hollywood movies you continue to remake and make $$$$ out of. You'll be surprised how many US films are made over here in Europe.

If these intelligent writers don't know something why pretend they do? That just speaks volumes of how arrogant these American screenwriters are capable of being.

"im beautiful your not" - me
"you're* " - you

For too many years my work takes me all over the world except the Australia and NZ. And the poles of course. I spend months in foreign countries working with them and most people I've met are most aware of politics and geography regionally as well as what is happening within the US, Brits amongst them but less than Italy, Spain, France and Russians. And yes Americans less so. We talk louder in public and are arrogant more often than those in the EU and Russia, if that can be considered a 'consolation prize' to my fellow Americans.

Another whiny complaint by another Pean. They always flip out when you get even a tiny info wrong. Stupidass

There is very little reason for an American to give a *beep* about England vs The UK. There is a whole world filled with small *beep* holes like yours that we don't need to know anything about.

reply

Sadly, CynicalVision, MOST Americans do not know because 1) in gradeschool, they TOUCH on geography; it is an optional class in most high schools, 2) MANY Americans are just limited in their knowledge and don't seem to care, and 3) MANY (a great many) Americans think the world revolves around America and other nations are considered insignificant.

Looks like a majority of the people responding to your post fall into category 3. I share your frustration. I'm a natural born American but lack the arrogance to think we are the only ones that matter.

reply

Well, it's a similar situation to how people refer to the United States as America. Surely everyone knows that America is made up of more countries than the US, but everyone knows the Yanks as Americans.

reply

I love how this idiot comes on here and berates Americans, makes some incorrect points and than never bothers to come back and respond. Way to go.

England is an exception to the rule. It is generally acceptable to use England to represent the UK as a whole, because of how closely the UK is associated to England.

After all, in communications specifically, it is all about sharing a common understanding. If the great majority of people chooses to use an inaccurate application of a term, in a sense, it becomes accurate simply because of majority rule.
