Mediocre story with no dialogue and lots of style
I will admit I'm not a big John Woo guy. I like Face/Off because it was so absurd and Nic Cage crushed it. Everything else he did in the states seemed really cheese. Anyway, I gave it a shot because I do adore violent revenge flicks.
This was certainly that.
There is little to zero dialogue, so that was different. However, it takes a whole long time for the actual revenge stuff to start. By that I mean almost an hour. Then it kicks into overdrive. It's got a lot of gratuitous violence, our hero kills a lot of people, and it basically goes how you would expect. Frankly, it's John Wick meets Deathwish, and I bet that was Woo's pitch to executives.
Pros: Kinneman gives it his all, I'll give him that. The action scenes are very well done, and graphic enough to keep me interested.
Cons: It doesn't really break any new ground. It's not anything original, except for the no-dialogue stuff, which I didn't really even notice.
A random stranger's opinion: If you're dying for a new action movie you'll like it enough, but you'll walk away thinking, "That's it?"
