Yeah, sure. If the movie took place in the same universe as Jeffrey Dahmer, Ariel Castro, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, among many other US kidnappers and murderers, it would be professional negligence and lawsuits galore if there were no investigation of an eyewitness account of a serial killer. All hell would break loose when the truth finally made headlines.

In the movie there was no police investigation at all. The eyewitness account was ignored. Unlike the situation in your link.

I think cops are cops...they're all blue.

But I did find it unbelievable that neither would take her seriously at all regardless of what they might've thought. Someone kidnapped and held against their will for weeks on end are going to be unkempt and emotional and they should know that..

The premise intrigued me enough I guess.

I'm most definitely the same way. Most recent one I turned off was Don't Look Up. I understand it was social satire but, I see that shit every goddamn day I don't need to watch an entire movie of the same crap multiplied 10 fold LOL.

I interpreted that whole scene as the police knowing damn well what happened in that house and refusing to go near it, they’d rather gaslight Tess than have to deal with it.

It could also just be that the cops are few and far between because….Detroit.

there was no probable cause. you have to look at it from their point of view. she takes them to a random house, even admits to breaking a window... if cops are allowed to break down doors for this it would be mayhem.

BUT.... she could have shown them she can unlock the key box. that would mean something.

I loved this movie on my first viewing, but watching it a second time, while I was still entertained, the plot just falls apart under the slightest scrutiny.

There were so many things Tess could have done to try to convince the police. She could have given the police Keith's name and told him he was killed down there because surely he was reported as a missing person, right? Hell, why was she not reported as a missing person herself? Did the director who interviewed her and knew Tess was staying in a terrible neighborhood not think something was wrong when she never answered her call? Or why didn't Tess give the police the name of the director she interviewed with so that the cops could contact her to confirm who Tess was?

I'm not saying the cops would have believed anything she said, but she could have tried to say and do a whole lot more to convince them.

Nah, black cops are just as likely to ignore black women as white cops. I’m thankful they didn’t make it that 2 white cops as that would have been too obvious with the picture they are painting
