I am so sick of Brits with terrible American accents!

I started to watch this but was too put off by Worthington's terrible accent. It's bad American. Just stop it, Hollywood! I know these actors are well trained and easy to work with. But their accents ruin movies! Just stop it!

personally I prefer British or australian actors playing american roles than Americans trying, and usually failing, to do a British/English accent.

most Americans can't even tell an actor/actress is british/australian because they play the part so well.

Hugo weaving - the matrix, lord of the rings austin nigeria
Tim roth - pulp fiction, UK
Yvonne Strahovski - chuck (tv series) australian
christian bale - Batman trilogy, UK
hugh jackman - australia

this is the short list. there are many others.

I don't care about other americans doing piss poor accents. that's no pass for sam worthington. his accent was so bad i had to turn up the tv to understand what he was saying and was confused by him having an aussie accent but neither his father or brother having it. They say american accents are easier to do but i;ve heard morethan a few bad accents from foreigners failing at it; on tv.

Hello seestra, nice to see you again.

He had a very clear and concise accent, whether you saw it as fully Australian or not. May I make a suggestion that you spend some time watching Australian movies for a while to familiarise yourself with the accent. There are a lot of Aussies working in Hollywood these days and you will come across what you deem Australian accents in American movies more and more. As an Aussie myself, I have no hangups with any of the American dialects. That's because we grow up down here on a steady diet of American and British TV and films, as well as our own, so we are not straining our ears to understand what is said. It's just a suggestion so you can enjoy your movies in the future.

You ever think that we live in a country full of immigrants. Why does someone have to have an American accent to be in an American movie? I don't recall it stating this guy was born here. He very well could have been born outside of the United States and moved here at some point. Why does a person have to have a full on American accent? So it wasn't fully British either. So what? Really? I am from California but people accuse me of being from Boston or Brooklyn because of apparently an accent I have.

If I was to play a Californian in a movie, would my accent be wrong? Its not my fault my accent doesn't sound Californian. Its my accent. My father has been accused of the same thing. Would you say that my California accent was horrible? You would sound like a dumbass with me personally being from there and living there the first 19 years of my life. I have lived in WA and and now live in OR.

The point is, to criticize an accent you think should have been New York American accent where there is no evidence or support to actually make that valid is ridiculous.

People have accents to where they may not be from. I am a perfect example of it.

And for the British to come out with a stab at an American it could be that american accent has influenced his British accent and changed it somewhat but not fully. If you noticed the rest of his family had accents too. Including his father. I got the impression the family immigrating from outside the United States.

Why does he need to have a perfect accent? New York is full of immigrants.
Plus I am tired of Americans trying to sound English, Australian & just about everything else.

Television : The people medium, for medium people.

You think that's bad? Over here we are constantly bombarded with American actors who think that the British either sound like Lord Peter Wimsey or a graduate from the Dick Van Dyke School of English Accents - gor blimey!

I mean even Simpsons are taking the mickey out of that!

reply

That voice, though. He's gorgeous.
