4th Best Shymalan Movie for me

1. Unbreakable

2. 6th Sense

3. Glass

4. Knock on the Cabin

I really enjoyed it, especially after the huge disappointment that Old was.

I have Unbreakable and 6th Sense as truly top tier movies, Cabin is no where near that kind of level but is a pretty good Shymalan movie.

reply

Glass was an absolute pile of shit and completely ruined Unbreakable and Split. To put it ahead of Split and Signs is just sad.

reply

I agree about Glass. But, the thing that makes it very watchable is James McAvoy and his performance. But what M Night did at the end was unforgivable.

reply

I’d also rate Unbreakable as his best film.

reply

I really enjoyed it too, but unfortunately, I'd place more of his good movies above Cabin. I have The Village, Unbreakable, and Signs in my top 3 already, with Split, The Visit, and The Sixth Sense all somewhere after that.

reply

The Village ahead of Sixth Sense? Are you trolling or just stupid?

reply

Another one for the blocklist.

reply

Trolling got it

reply

I hated The Visit. The rest of his filmography is hit and miss to varying degrees but I was astounded at how truly awful The Visit was and couldn’t quite believe that MNS directed it. Any two-dollar hack could have made something so painfully bad, and would have probably done a better job of it.

reply

Well, for what it's worth, The Visit put him back on the map haha. We wouldn't have gotten Split or Knock at the Cabin.

reply

There’s no accounting for taste 🤷‍♂️

Seriously, watch The Sixth Sense and The Visit back-to-back and tell me there is anything that links them in terms of style, imagination or directorial proficiency. If his name wasn’t in the credits I wouldn’t believe it was the same filmmaker. Without knowing he was the director I would assume it was a student filmmaker trying to muscle in on the found footage genre, way after it stopped being an interesting way to make movies.

reply

Perhaps, I shall. I haven't seen The Sixth Sense again in years. I guess it doesn't help either that, looking back, I'm just not as impressed by The Sixth Sense either, esp compared to the movies he immediately did afterwards.

In my defense, I didn't rank Split/Visit/Sixth Sense. :D Not exactly how I feel about them relatively to each other.

reply

Second best for me, after The Sixth Sense.

No love for Split??

reply

I've actually liked everything Shymalan has done. Some I've liked more than others, of course, but I think they're all good in their own ways.

Split is my absolute favorite! McAvoy's acting just blew me away.

reply

James should have been nominated for the best actor Oscar for both Split and Glass. He is definitely a rarity in Hollywood.

but I think they're all good in their own ways.

Lady in the Water??

reply

That might be the only one of his movies I didn't see. It sounded too much like a fairy tale. Is it good?

I agree 100% that McAvoy should have been nominated for best actor. He is fantastic.

reply

That might be the only one of his movies I didn't see.

Okay, that explains a lot then LOL.

I watched it one time back in the day and it was absolutely horrible. I can't remember a damn thing about it all I remember is that I couldn't wait for it to be over. I honestly don't even remember if I did finish it but I think I did. Yeah it's like some kind of fantasy or fairy tale or some shit like that. It was terrible. But that was back then. Sometimes movies get better with the second viewing years later. But that's not one that I'm interested in the slightest bit watching again. But one never knows. If I ever see it playing on TV I might stop and give it a peek.

reply

Lady in the water is the only one of his films that I actually dislike.

I still like the happening even though it's awful lol

reply

The Happening is award-worthy compared to Lady in the Water LOL 😅😅😅😅

reply

It was surprisingly good. I'd give it a 7/10.

Unbreakable is my favourite from Shyamalan, followed by 6th Sense.

reply

Only M Knight film I genuinely didn’t like was Old.

reply

Just watched. It was much better than expected.
