The kids...

Maybe I'm not exactly a "kids" person, but I thought the kids were the worst bit in the movie. I was surprised there wasn't a thread made already, but maybe I'm lone in this?

If I were Sandler's character, I would not be able to stand these kids and would probably be some sort of a deal breaker in order for me to end up with Aniston's character. They were just so rude, scheming and most disrespectful kids, which I know was on purpose for the "funny" aspect, but in real life I don't see how anyone could love these children. Pity them because they don't have a father, yes, but it's not hard to see why they don't.

"STAMOS!"
"Spell... 'Banana.'"
"I'm afraid I just blue myself."

I agree with you. They were just annoying! The same than Sandler's cousin. When he showed up at the airport and joined the party I was like "Oh no! make him stay please!". The supporting actors almost ruined the otherwise entertaining film.

they were the best part of the movie.

ALL HAIL MEGATRON!!

reply

I agree - best part. I *wanted* to see the movie because I saw Bailee doing the accent in a trailer.

I though the girl was going to drop her horrible accent early on. Instead we have to suffer through it the whole movie. The boy is the creepiest looking child actor I've ever seen. No one likes little kids, especially ones that can't act.

"I thought to myself, I am going to die...but I am not going to tap"

reply

I liked the girl a lot better than the boy. At least she was funny. The boy was annoying as hell.

reply

Whoever's idea it was for the girl to do that accent the whole movie should never work in hollywood again. Perhaps if it was done well it would have been alright for her to continue it, but it certainly was not, and it seemed like something they just through into the plot at the last minute. I understand she's a young actress and probably hasn't had time or training for learning different accents, but that's exactly why she shouldn't be assigned to do it in a Hollywood movie.

The boy was ok, I guess. I didn't really like his character, but at least his dialog seemed relatively natural.

Nothing you have to say is anywhere near as useful or important as you think it is.

I thought the girl was great She kept the pretend accent going quite well. No different to the cousins german accent

reply

I hated the girl.
It actually almost makes me want to switch off the movie.
I love the actress, but that accent to me is worse than a shovel on concrete and nails on a chalkboard.

reply

Please, the cousin's accent was at least just as bad as the girl's. Also, Dolph Lundgren is Swedish, and not German. And that accent sounded like either of those.

I'm a Swede living in Germany, so I know what I'm talking about.

The whole point of her character is that she's an aspiring actress, but she's terrible at it. The accent isn't supposed to sound natural. It's supposed to sound forced and over-exaggerated. That's why Adam Sandler was so quick to say no when she did her accent, because they were MEANT to be awful.

Personally, I think she did a great job. It's a lot harder for a good actress to play horrible.

reply

Yeah, my question wasn't why is she doing the accent. That she's an aspiring actress was blatantly stated in the dialog. My problem was that her doing the horrible accent made her character extremely annoying and made what already a weak movie that much harder to watch. The idea for the accent should have been scrapped after they heard her actually do a whole scene with it.

I really enjoyed the kids. I've watched the movie again just to watch the young girl. I thought she was funny.

reply

Hated the kids. Not cute at all. Same thing in Grown Ups.

reply

Actually turned the movie off because the kids were the last straw. Yes, her accent (and fake acting that she was acting) was meant to be annoying bad, I'll grant the movie maker a brief bit of annoyment, then it just becomes abuse. Can believe anybody liked those kids in this movie.

reply

wow,i totally agree, especially the little girl.she so overacted and was such an unbelievable character as a 12 year old.
thank goodness it was on dvd so i could ff

reply

I like Sandler but I HATE THE GIRL! Hate hate hate. So ugly, annoying, horrible,I could vomit. The boy was ok. The cousin was trash with feet. This movie would have done so much better if the boy was the only child and the cousin was GONE. And FYI-that was not an Austrian accent or attitude. I know because-wait for it-I'M AUSTRIAN.Hated these extra bits. Austria isn't a land of sheepherders or whatever. It 's a country where some of the most famous composers were born,Vienna-a shopping and culture mecca, and beautiful mountains and lakes and hi-tech companies. Shopping,multi-lingual residents, and beer for breakfast (not to mention the finest desserts in the world.)

Let's not forget that Sandler's character dragged THEM into this huge lie just so he could get some tail. If I were a little kid being forced to do some mess like that, trust me I would milk it for everything it was worth.

If you are reading this, you have just lost The Game.
