One of the worst movies ever...

A boring celebration of pure stupidity. I felt like I was watching a 94 minute long beer commercial.

reply

It has its flaws, but this film a "celebration"?
That is a misnomer if ever there was one.

reply

This coming from the guy who thinks Sphere and Knowing should be in the top 250. xD

reply

Why not? Both are infinitely more intelligent and intriguing.

reply

Critics must really dislike intelligent and intriguing movies then.

you've just made a perfect definition of a critic.

I have seen this film immedaitely after it has been released. It made a strong impression on me. Of course, you cannot discuss taste of others but in this case I would simply say that the only thing stupid about this film-are the comments from some of the viewers.
I think the only objective element when watching a film is whether it can keep your attention throughout it's watching. 127 hours did that! I wouldn't speak about the images, camera or acting of J.Franco-everything was excellent.
However this doesn't mean that everybody will like this film.

Boring?, in parts certainly, the dream sequences could be tolerated, just, but the childhood memories wear thin pretty quickly. I understand him finding solace in his family memories but that is highly personal to him, while this might work in a novel, on screen it feels like the movie is dragging.

On the whole the movie could be cut by at least 15mins. I know this might not seem value for money if you are paying at the box office but I felt the director was pushed to lengthen the movie, to appear VFM.
Also, I was not impressed with the amputation scene, OK, I'm not sure what else they could have done but I couldn't get the word latex out of my mind. Franco was excellent, especially since he was Boyles 2nd choice after Cillian Murphy couldn't do it.

I was hoping we would see him meet with Kristi & Megan, the two girls he met earlier on in the movie, I wanted to see their faces when he explained, in fact shown them why he hadn't turned up to the 'Scooby Doo' party!
Cut childhood memories, cut most of the video diary footage, be brave Mr Boyle - the 'directors cut' literally.

One of the worst movies is a gross exaggeration but I agree with the frustration of viewere - great story but this is not the way I would have shot the movie. The rock music and some of his memories back could have been told in a more powerful way. It could have been a much more powerful movie if a director like Scorcese or Stone shot this.

reply

It isn't for sure the worst movie, but it was sure boring. I don't think it was "movie" material. Who cares about the misadventure of this unknown dude. Any other director wouldn't have made this story better. So what, he had to disconnect a part of his body from his self to get out of that predicament he stupidly got himself into.

Like I said, NOT movie material... who cares

This movie does not celebrate his stupidity. It shows the consequences of his stupidity and is a warning to anyone going on dangerous trips to bring a phone with them so they can contact people when they get stuck. The protagonist in this movie learned from his mistake and now always stays in contact with people so something like that will never happen again.

It did seem to get to a point you where wanting it to hurry up and get to the end but at the same time it wasn't a bad film
