After spending the past couple of days marathoning the original three Evil Dead moies and the first season of Ash Vs. Evil Dead I got to wonder how Ash williams would last in a fight against the Blair Witch. Given all he's endured I think he has a shot of defeating the Witch and walking away intact.
Maybe not, after all he's survived and endured over not only the Evil Dead movies but also the Ash Vs. Evil Dead show. If anyone could last against the Witch, it'd be him.
I doubt it. You cant even LOOK at the witch without dying and until she wants to kill you she's pretty much invisible. She can alter time, reality and space, can cause intense hallucinations and insanity, and is pretty much unstoppable.
This is Ash we're talking about. The guy who throughout his entire film, video game, and comic book history has survived the most insurmountable odds through the dumbest, most inexplicably successful means possible. Sure...the witch can make you hallucinate and go insane...so can just about everything Ash has ever experienced before. And yes, you can't look at her directly without dying...so Ash gets his chainsaw, ties a blindfold on, and goes to town...kicks his own ass, bumbles all over the room, but ultimately triumphs through apparent sheer tyranny of idiocy. I don't see why the Blair Witch should be considered anything more unstoppable than anything else Ash has faced. Plus he's got a Deus Ex Machi-novel with him at all times.
Yes but unlike all of the enemies he's faced, the Blair Witch has absolutely no known weaknesses and as far as anyone knows she can't even be physically touched or seen unless she wants to be. She also is most definitely not listed in the necronomicon so there's no way Ash would know what he's getting himself into. The second she knows he's even a little bit of a threat she's going to kill him. He can't see her or touch her but she can see and touch him, as well as control time and space. Who's to say she can't just stop time if she gets that desperate? Or who's to say she couldn't just shift the forest around and suddenly send a tree that wasn't there before down on him before he even realizes it? Ash survives because he knows deadites and he's lucky. Well the Blair Witch is no deadite and luck doesn't last forever. One slip up and Ash is dead, no question. Because no matter what argument you put up, Ash knows nothing about the Blair Witch, and she's completely unseeable AND untouchable unless she wants to be. She literally killed three of the six people in Blair Witch without even being physically there. She literally appears out of nowhere and throws a girl out of a tree. She snaps a girl in half just because of a stick figure being broken. She can kill Ash without him even knowing she's there, because that's just how the Blair Witch works. Once Ash is in those woods, he's not getting out.
The Necronomicon is essentially a link to Lovecraftian evil beyond anything we've ever seen The Blair Witch do. I'm sure there's something in that Deus Ex Machina that could easily be used to defeat a witch. And while Ash wouldn't necessarily know what he's getting into he'd likely know the legends, as everybody seems to repeat them ad nauseum in these movies, so I think he'd have some idea what he's up against at the very least. Especially given he's working from experience that nobody else in the known world would have to draw upon. Again I just don't think given what we know of both franchises and characters that there's any reason to suspect that The Blair Witch is completely undefeatable. Especially since most of her ability to control anything seems to come from her ability to incite fear and panic in her victims...Ash is far less likely to cower in a corner because she came running down the stairs. than the average dipweed college student.
Her powers don't really seem to come from her victims fearing her as she's able to use them before anyone is even sure of what's happening (controlling time, shifting the forest around, etc.) and I'm sure that there isn't much Ash can do to defeat something that he can't even see or touch which is what I'm getting at here. If there is no known weakness for the Blair Witch then until one is stated there is none. So until a weakness is added to her mythology then basically as of now there's no way to stop her. She has control over the entire forest and everything in it, so she basically plays god (or the devil in this sense) and can do whatever she wants whenever she wants. Hell, if she wanted to she could probably just kill him right when the curse sets in. All I'm getting at here is yes, Ash has faced MANY creatures in his lifetime and I absolutely LOVE his character but I highly doubt he could defeat something that can't be seen nor touched, and that has no known weakness and is pretty much god within that forest. And knowing horror movies now, if she did have a weakness it would must likely just make her more aggressive and angry before actually harming her. Besides, yes, there's the legend of the Blair Witch that many people know about within the movies but they never actually talk about her powers within the movies. They only talk about how she came to haunt the forest and why. Other than that, no one (who's still alive) knows what she can do.
Maybe, but not against something that he knows absolutely nothing about besides a few urban legends. He doesn't know her powers or abilities and i doubt any kind of chant or spell he could dish out would do much at all. She's essentially God in this situation and the forest is her template. All I'm saying is, Ash is human. All humans can die. His chainsaw and his shotgun won't do anything against an untouchable opponent and I highly doubt he has anything to use against something with no specified weakness. In the end, Ash is just a human with a chainsaw hand, a shotgun and a bit of black magic up his sleeve. Whereas the Witch is an otherworldly being that is completely unexplainable as to WHAT she is, what her true power and potential is and how powerful she can be. She's just too unpredictable and unpredictability is very deadly, especially with the abilities that she has and/or may have. Who's to say she can't just make Ash's spells/magic completely void in her realm? Who's to say she can't just pluck the necronomicon or whatever else Ash has out of his grasp?
Ash is my favorite film character of all time. But he can't even remember the words from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy that the wizard gave him. He has no chance going against something he's never fought before, unless it's listed in the necronomicon.
With how badly scarred Ash's mental and psychological state is, it's certainly possible seeing the Witch herself might not have much of an effect on him.
Who's to say she can't just pluck the necronomicon or whatever else Ash has out of his grasp?
The Witch would raise some serious Hell if she ever got ahold of the book. It's fun to theorize she may have used it or something similar when she started out as a Witch before she got left to die.
