Dull, tedious, boring and pointless remake

I was a fan of the original as I thought it brought a refreshing new angle to the genre and skillfully crafted genuine tension and fear from unseen threats.

Like any remake you need to bring a new perspective to the material and try and better the original otherwise why bother.

This move failed in just about every aspect from the direction, plot (what plot?), writing, camerawork and total lack of any mood.

Running, screaming, crashing through undergrowth followed by shaky hand held cameras and merit less jump scares do not invoke fear in a wise and weary audience.

Repeated jump scares generated by people randomly bumping into inanimate and animate objects and shrieking into the camera are sure signs of a movie that has nothing else to offer.

Wingard needs to find another career or a genre that he is comfortable operating in because horror certainly isn't one of them.

He even managed to turn the promising start of the Guest into something that resembled a poor 80's TV movie.

As I said in the thread title dull, tedious, boring and pointless remake demonstrating a lazy and talent less approach to film making.

I stopped reading at "remake."

You're dumber than you think I think you are.

The first film had amateur actors who came off as ordinary 20-somethings from the 90's, adlibbing their way through the woods in Maryland, following very vague instructions all the while feeling legitimate fear.

This movie was a bunch of completely one note, and overly attractive SAG actors over-acting on script, running around the woods of Vancouver. A place where while watching the movie I said to my friend "Hey, why does the forest look so familiar?" Oh, it's because it was basically filmed in my backyard (as I live in the PNW). So that explains why there was no awesome shots of classic Blair Witch locations from the first movie. Like...you know. Any of Burkittsville.

The two movies may be similar to the point of even accusing the new ones of being a "beat for beat remake," but lets not delude ourselves here. This was simply an over produced piece of crap, in a genre where the more amateur you go, the scarier.

When it comes to modern found footage horror, hollywood just can't figure it out. It's up to indie projects such as Marble Hornets (among many other youtube series in similar veins) to keep the legacy alive. This movie was just the latest in many bad attempts.

Completely and utterly pointless remake, indeed! I can see no use for it other than that it is a remake of the masterfully original for a new generation. But, in my very humble opinion, the new generation could very well see the "The Blair Witch Project" instead.
Of course, todays generation are so used to the shaky, blurry handheld, and way too screamy found tape genre, they probably would find the original too slow and uninteresting.
Pity, since it really scared the crap out of us back then...this flick, however, does nothing for me.

This is not a remake, it's a sequel.

It might as well be.

"Might as well be" and "Is" are two different things.

Continuing to refer to it as a remake only makes the person saying it look foolish.
