I keep seeing Cronenberg, Kubrick and Lynch comparisons, that is just insane. Yes he bites from those guys, but just the style. They would never put out a movie with no plot.
I wanted to like this movie. FFS I am Canadian and go out of my way to support Canadian movies. I even watched it while tripping, thought it would be trippy. In fact drugs are mentioned by many people as an influence, what an insult to drugs.
Watching someone take 5 minutes to take a step just doesn't do it for me. This movie is slow, pointless, and at the end it was a joke just how bad it was. This movie is trying (hard) to be a cult classic, it is not and never will be. I like movies where things happen, nothing happens in this. I have seen some bad cinema so I can't call it the worst, but it is one of them. I just hope it wasn't funded by Telefilm Canada AKA my tax dollars.
If you like this movie you are nouveau art fag film poseur/follower who likes things because they are supposed to. This film has almost no merit. I almost always agree to disagree about art and accept everyone has different tastes but I do not believe you people actually like this garbage. It looks good but that is it. A 4/10 and that's is being generous. Seriously every other film in the trippy movies thread on this board (and I have seen almost all of them) are much much better.
This movie really sucks. Bad.

OP's movie rating history totally supports that. He's sitting at home and hoping he could fondle Cronenberg, Kubrick and Lynch's balls. He gives their movies a really high rating, but similar movies from other directors he craps on. 4 for BTBR? 5 for Donny Darko?

Very well put dude. I was going to post and talk something about this, but you said it well enough.

Movie isn't good. Won't be a cult classic. It tries to hard and it's not impressive. Not impressive at all. I could see this film being cult if the shots were actually difficult or unique. But they aren't. Felt like I was watching a student film, some kid playing around with colors.

This film has a 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, so how are people who like it "followers"? If anything wouldn't they be the opposite? You say the plot makes no sense, I thought so too the first time I saw it. But then I read the Wikipedia article about the plot which explains a lot more than the film itself does, and during the second viewing I found many things relating to the plot that I had failed to notice the first time around. You'll probably say one shouldn't have to read an explanation afterward to enjoy a film, but it was much like 2001. The first time I really liked it but wasn't sure what it meant. I read up on it and the second time I loved it and understood more of what was going on. This film certainly isn't for everyone, but I couldn't disagree more about it sucking. I found it to be brilliant and hypnotic, but to each his own I suppose.

Looking at your other reviews, it seems that you're into offbeat movies, but you seem to rate cult classics kind of low. You gave 'Johnny Darko' a 5. I mean, really?

I'm thinking you didn't really understand this movie, though it's strange, since you gave Eraserhead and Naked Lunch high marks.

Maybe you're just butthurt that people are comparing this to Cronenberg, Kubrick and Lynch?

Exactly. You hit the nail on the richard-head. Little fanboys are always offended by comparisons to their heroes. This isn't a new phenomenon. And to be honest, I sort of get it. Sort of.

When you idolize someone so much you'd drop to your knees to fellatiate them, no questions asked, despite being heterosexual, even when running late for a Jenny Craig meeting....it must be maddening to see a newcomer being compared to them. It makes them crazy. They do crazy things. They go off their diets. They stomp their feet. They write negative reviews of the newcomer's projects. They stop trimming their neckbeards. They refuse to change their Hot-Pocket-stained XXL black T-shirt for weeks.

But why hate? We need to be tolerant. We need to love them, and show our support.
