Hollywood needs to stop naming things after unrelated events

seriously, I saw the and name of the movie and immediately thought of the Greek Romans, epic battles, maybe it would be about the great Byzantine general Belisarius? maybe it was about the splitting of the Roman empire? maybe it was about the decline of the empire etc....

And then you read the description and you are met with utter dissapointment, it's like that other movie tyrannosaur that features a skeleton of a tyrannosaurus Rex on it's cover and has nothing to do with Dinosaurs, it's false advertising and there should be laws against this!

I thought the reference was more to the passing of time and how opinions, viewpoints and feelings change. First it was Byzantium, then Constantinople, and then Istanbul. That's exactly what this movie goes on about. Nothing lasts forever, empires crumble and something new is built out of the rumble. Mother and daughter always left picking up the pieces, vampires born from the death of the human, the implied end of the brotherhood by a new species of vampire (the female), the end of a 200 year era when the mother and daughter split up. All that ends is just a beginning.

Except Byzantium does play into the movie. Secondly, what gave you the impression that this movie had anything to do with "Hollywood"?

Movies = Hollywood to me, I am aware that not every movie comes from Hollywood, but I'm still going to refer to "the movie business" as Hollywood for convenience sake, and because when I grew up there was only Hollywood.

As for Byzantium playing into the movie?

In what scene exactly did the Basileios of Constantinople defend his great city from the hordes of Muslim Barbarians?

Because I never saw it.

You can't say the word Byzantium without conjuring up images of Mehmed II's Janissary's, the greatest bombard ever built, and the brave Greeks fighting of the Muslims!

That is probably the stupidest thing I've read today.

Except it isn't convenient at all since you're the only person that goes by that definition. Meaning every time you use it in reference to a non-Hollywood movie will result in you explaining that you're using a definition of "Hollywood" that's exclusive to you.

I don't know when you grew up, but I highly doubt only Hollywood movies existed.

You sir, are making a very good case if you want us to consider you a fool. The word plays into the film through the leader of the Brotherhood was from the Byzantine Empire. Are you really only aware of one battle involving the empire?

Maybe in your mind, but you're not the center of the universe, now are you?

Except it is so convenient to use Hollywood for the movie industry that for instance cracked does it all the time!

Oh, so because 1 guy from the brotherhood was from Byzantium, that justifies naming the movie that?

That's just the movie version of clickbait!

I picked up that the story began and ended in Byzantium.
The oldest vampires we see began in the old city of Byzantium, and the new vampires' story sort of begins at the hotel Byzantium.
Not beat over the head with it, but I think it's there. Maybe you just didn't like the movie enough to get into it.
