'Best Vampire flick of the decade'? Really?

Not a chance mate! As for me (a horror-flick-lover), best of the decade so far (2010-2014)is Stake Land. FFS, vampires are bloodthirsty MONSTERS, not emo kids (damn you Interview with a Vampire, even though I liked that). If we take under consideration series too then you can add The Strain to the list. Don't take me wrong, I liked the film (rate it 7/10) but more for its drama elements and the hopeless fight against lonelyness/eternity but a "best vampire"? Nope, no way.

They're not Vampires.

reply

They are. Different take on the monster but then again they are different species of vampire anyway.

They feed on blood, need to be invited in and are immortal: Vampire

reply

Gemma is DEFF the HOTTEST VAMPIRE-though.....

reply

Vampires aren't mindless zombie-like monsters that always spill blood all over either, though....some are more refined. Stakeland is closer to zombie fiction than usual vampire stories.

I fear that Interview with the vampire (btw what emo kids?) will forever be the best.

Yep. it's got no competition as nothing else is even close to it.

-Interview with the Vampire (1994) - 8/10 (within my Top 63 movies in general and easily the #1 Vampire or Horror type of movie out there.)

-Byzantium (2012-2013) - 6-6.5/10 (probably my 2nd favorite of the vampire types of movies. i just finished seeing this for the second time on Jan 19th 2017 as my initial viewing was Oct 28th 2013. but anyways, i think it improved a little for me as my initial viewing was a 6/10 but on a re-watch i bumped it up a little. i think it's the general mood of the movie that helps carry it.)

so given that info i do think it's the best vampire movie of the decade like the topic says.

I'm not really into 'vampire' movies so it would be hard for me to rank it over that last decade but if you are using Stake Land and the Strain as the shining examples of "vampire" flicks of the past decade then I think this you're hurting your own opinion more then helping. I liked Stake Land, it was great fun, but the story was kind of only ok and The Strain? Really?? I think I got to the point in season one where the left the little kid with the old lady with dementia and SHOCK!! bad things happen. It was just to stupid. Good idea (with the virus/virologist) but terrible writing, terrible characters and even more unrealistic than Byzantium was. You are really going to have to come up with something much much better then those two examples to convince me. I suppose you think Avatar should have like totally won best picture over Hurt Locker because the special effects were like totally rad man. Story be dammed...

The problem comes from people saying best and greatest for films or well, anything.

I like more story than blood in my horror films so my favorite recent vampire movies are this one and Let the Right One In.

. . . The Bones tell me nothing.

reply

Same here. This film moved me immensely. LTROI is pure beauty too.

reply

Dude, really!? Stake Land? the best? Granted it is definitely a good one and underrated but at the same time it doesn't come close to Byzantium.

reply

Byzatium is the best, most intelligent vampire movie I've ever seen. Second-best is Near Dark.

Interview With the Freaking Vampire??! Anne Rice HATED Tom Cruise as Lestat.

reply

I agree with you on both counts. I also liked Let the Right One In. I remember going to see Near Dark at the theater when it first came out and really being surprised at how well done it was. I loved the casts in both of the movies you mentioned.

reply

This post pertains to Bill Paxton, Lance Hendrickson and the "Near Dark"'cast, many of whom came from her then-husband's movie, Aliens:
"It's from finger licken' good!" My God! What a great vampire movie!

That never used the word "vampire."' What a fabulous Gale Anne Hurd-produced flick. I consider her coeval
with her ex-paramour, James
Cameron. They both rock hard!

Not even close.
