Maybe he just left the hospital where his dying Mom is, and his Wife just gave birth to Twin Girls.
They were just about to lose the house because he had no job and couldn't afford it anymore, but just got off the phone with someone who offered him a great job, saving the house in the process.
Life is good!
Until some A-Hole at a gas station says 'GIMMIE YOUR KEYS'
He steals your car, the gas station blows up, you die, your Mom dies without seeing you again, your Daughters never get to meet you, your family loses the house, and your Wife tuns to prostitution.

What about the police he killed, I am sure some of them were married and have kids.

He wasn't the attendant.
Plus, I think he shot all of the law enforcement officers in their bullet-proof vests. Didn't kill any. Except maybe one he threw over a balcony?

So after those police were shot, they just stayed down and played dead?

Do you remember the lift scene, where police were cut in half. Do you think they were OK too?

It is just a lot of police were killed but most people do not seem to notice at all.

Ya and he made them all look quite inept. I kept telling my wife - If any SEALS/COPS/FBI etc ever see Statham, I wouldn't be surprised if they punch him in the face for making them all look so useless.

Those weren't police. They were the hired mercenaries. The police were the group of SWAT that he took down outside of the building. They made it a point to show and tell that he didn't kill any of them

There was even a big scene about it to set it up and the police had to stand down and go outside.

How did he know which one is which, did he check their badges before killing them? Can he guarantee all SWAT members were out and stay out, even they hear gun shots they will just whistle and walk away like nothing happened?

In live fire situation 20 to 1, he will just say I will spare them because I am invincible?

Also even the lives of private security are not worthless, their only sin was to protect a private property, at least in that case. Yet he had no problem killing them instead of scammers who wrecked countless lives.

I'm responding specifically to the lift scene that you referenced. They were not police. They went out of their way to show this in the setup scene.

They also went out of their way to show that he didn't kill any of the SWAT outside the building.

Like I said before private security were people too. What is the difference? They were not unionised?

That was a covert operation, do you think the beekeepers or CIA would let him live and tell the story? They did not exactly cover their faces.
