How does this movie condone rape or use it as entertainment?

So do you (the OP) also not watch films that show (and therefore apparently "condone") MURDER?

Rape is either shown as realistic and horrible (which is hardly condoning it) or in rare cases it's eroticized but totally ridiculous (mostly in movies the nitwits who complain about this have never seen). In neither case, is the actress REALLY being raped, and you're engaging in some half-assed mass psychoanalysis to assume: 1. anybody is turned on by this, and 2. even if they are, they would react the same way to rape in REAL-LIFE. Even women FANTASIZE about rape sometimes, and pretty much everybody would be horrified by real-life murder even if they laugh at it in a movie.

Also, I don't object to men being raped at all in movies. "Deliverance" is a great movie. I found the rape scene in "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" harrowing and was rooting for the girl when she took revenge and essentially raped her male rapist. I also thought actress Rooney Mara had a beautiful ass and admired it in the rape scene because I knew she obviously wasn't really getting raped, yet I found her acting very impressive and I actually respect her greatly as an actress. That's called maturity and intelligent, complex thought. Some of us are actually capable of it, and if you're not, piss off and watch something else.

What's your point then? That we should accept rape as a natural occurrence, because that's what's going on anyway? That sounds kind of hollow, don't you think?

Moral doesn't hide what's really going on, it highlights everything, and asks people to conform to the concepts of good and evil. Seeing as most people are capable of empathy this is a pretty simple task for most people. But once in a while you come across the odd sociopath, who doesn't really understand this process, and if they don't get it - explaining it won't do them any good. ;)

I agree that the pro-rapist guy is an idiot but did you just compare racism to rape, child rape and murder? They're not even in the same zip code. Racism doesn't and shouldn't get you convicted of a crime.

You politically correct idiots think freedom of speech/religion/thought only applies when it benefits you. For example, homosexuality is wrong, but who am I to tell other people have to live or think? Yet I read PC police comments, brow beating people like me for not condoning homosexuality.

In the kingdom of wild animals rape and non-consensual sex perpetuates the various species and has for millennia.

You really don't know much about wild animals.

There are very few species in which non-consensual sex is the norm.

Males of many species go to great lengths to get a female to allow them to breed with them. Everything from male animals presenting the female with gifts, male birds making fools of themselves dancing until they drop and some that fight each other to prove their worthiness to the female. Many of them die doing so.

Quite a few species have long, loving relationships, some mating for life.

There are some species where non-consensual sex occurs - ducks, geese, dolphins - but they are few and far between and are definitely not the norm.

Neither do you... You go on to anthropomorphize animal sex in a handful of species [out of millions] as evidence that their *beep* is something other than gene perpetuation. (Of course, mating methods aren't historically static either.) Most of us have seen the examples you've presented on PBS...

But I digress, the rape scene was unfortunately cut out of the film so OP is talking about nothing anyway.

What about backing up your nonsense with evidence? besides vertebrates, which only number in the thousands, in most animals the female is the physically dominant one, females are the bigger ones in most arthropods and in most if not all fishes sex doesn't even involve physical contact and the same goes for amphibians (in which the females are always larger).

First of all, you can't say usually in the animal kingdom, because there are millions of species out there, with millions upon millions of subspecies. You can't possibly know enough about them to make such a claim. Not to mention, every type has their own method of breeding. Lastly, rape is a human term, based on human morality. Rape really can only be a term for humans, as we have developed socially and have language to express hopes and desires. Animals do not have this, and if they did, their concept of morality would be completely different to ours.

People don't seem to understand that including something in a movie/book/TV show/ whatever DOES NOT EQUAL condoning the thing.

There is rape in this movie. What exactly leads you to believe that the movie proposes that rape is an okay or normal thing? What leads you to believe that the rape is portrayed as erotic?

Rape is seen in movies/books/TV shows/whatever because rape is a THING THAT HAPPENS. Is rape horrible and disgusting and tragic? Yes. But it happens. It happens a LOT.

Is rape often whipped out as a blunt little tool to show how evil a character is or to add drama? Yes. Is the same thing done with murder? Yep. Is that what's being done here, in this movie? No.

To say that rape should never ever be in books or movies is ridiculous. Do you think the same thing about murder? Physical assault?

Interesting to note that up until the last couple of hundred years as opposed too the many thousands of years man has existed as we currently appear, women were raped and treated pretty harshly.

I bet you wouldn't go and bash something like Chinatown, which is both a masterpiece in cinema history and an absolute classic, whose main victim was raped.

BTW my first point is more or less leaning towards the fact that despite your views, in real life, when you break it down, mankind hasn't really evolved beyond the point of living by laws as a means of survival.

Shakespeare had an obscure play called "Titus Andronicus" where a woman not only gets raped but has her tongue and hands chopped off, so she can't tell anybody. Later her rapists are murdered and cooked and unknowingly fed to their own mother (who had arranged the rape). The whole story was partly based on Greek mythology (the story of Procne and Philomena). This has long been a theme in art and literature, so OF COURSE people can make movies about it. But if YOU are overly sensitive to the subject of rape, YOU can always not watch the movies.

But even consider a movie that actually does "glorify" and eroticize rape--like the ridiculous Japanese movie "Rapeman" (I'm not making this up) about a superhero who rights the wrongs of society by raping "evil" women, who usually end up enjoying it. Of course, people like the OP shouldn't watch stuff like that, but what is going too far as when they claim that if you do watch or enjoy or laugh at something like this, you must hate women and/or are insensitive to real-life rape. Nonsense. This is NOT real-life rape--in fact, it's totally ridiculous. It's like saying if I laugh at Bigs Bunny/Road Runner cartoons, I must get off in real life on coyotes and cats and other animals being slaughtered and tortured. That's completely absurd. It's just a fricking MOVIE.
