One thing I hate about these stupid movies ...

It started a long time ago with the "mine is bigger than yours" competition. It is so stupid. Every movie has to have a bigger starship or battle cruiser than the last one.

This reached its pinnacle in Star Wars with the Deathstar.

Then they started to compete on the size of the cities they could portray.

Now Dune has reached such ridiculously comedic proportions where they show these formations of troops that stretch for miles and include millions of soldiers standing there at attention in formations that could never exist and would be so stupid if they did.

I watched the Geidi Prime part of Dune 2 last night on Amazon, where a coliseum and crowds of millions if not billions are all chanting in unison in favor of their ruling family, by the way a ruling family that just murders people in the most gruesome ways on a whim.

Maybe this started with the James Bond movies where hundreds of Bond-villain henchmen would die or risk being killed for making a mistake, until 007 appears and pulls down the whole complex and kills them all.

These are idiotic movies that do this, and yet somehow seems to be popular. Are they really that good, or is there just nothing else to watch?

Actually, the only redeeming value of these flicks is the production design. It sure as hell wasn't the cardboard characters and the flimsiest excuse for dialog I have seen yet.

Some aspects of the design were cool, but mostly not, mostly like little chuncks of eyecandy. I used to like "Dune" having read it about the time it came out, and after all this talk, exploitation, the crappy movies and dumbification, I pretty much dislike it. They've turned it to crap.
