Not likely. Dune part 1 made $405 million with a $165 million budget. This is fairly good seeing as how it was also streamed online while showing in theaters.

$165m x 2.5 = $412m

they lost money. part 2 will also lose money.

Who is "they"? The cast, crew, theater owners, HBO all made money. Do you think the investors are foolish enough to lose more money by making part two of a loser?

they is the studio, duh! yes they are, they(studio) were contractually obligated to make a sequel.
