What kind of ending was that?? HUGE spoilers

Seemed pretty cheap to me! Although it was relatively interesting, what mostly held my attention throughout the movie was wondering how everything was going to play out in the end. I couldn't wait for the sci-fi stuff!
The payoff? A brief series of scenes reveal the secret a few minutes before all the main characters simply take a header off of a frickin' cliff. Cut to world exploding -The End, exit to the left please.

BUT WAIT! Add a little salt by immediately cut to giant graphic: "Why Not? Productions", which invokes a nonchalant passivity that seems in line with the amount of effort they seemed to put into said ending.
All that build-up just to have the movie end abruptly enough to make it seem as if the screenwriter(s) just threw in the towel. "Frick it, the world explodes, let's go grab a beer.".
"Yeah, why not?"

So the plot seemed like more of a simple conduit for showing much homosexuality (was there accidentally a 'straight' character in there somewhere?) rather than much else. Except for the hetero sex which later turns out to have been unintentional incest.
Was this just kind of a homosexual promotion (homo-promo (sorry!)) type movie?

Still a decent movie, I suppose. Just seems like they could have done a lot more with the ending. Anyone else get that impression?

K, I can't stop. Here's my take on the movie:
Masturbate, Party, Sex, knife-wielding furry. Lesbian sex, gay sex on the beach, Looney Tune stalkers, sex again, mom sex, heroic faucet, 3-way!! Mass-kidnapping, everyone dies and kaboom. Just thought this was going to be somewhat Sci-fi or something. Anything other than what it mostly was.

Well, the end did felt a little bit disappointing..well, not disappointing, more like insufficient since they build up so much tension but at the same time it felt extremely fitting and coherent with the theme of the film which is bat sh.t crazy.

I quite liked the film, very original.

I do wish the transition between scenes was a little smoother.

And yes, the film is selling sex ( not really homosexuality) but just care-free sex in general and good times. Obviously, it's not a plot-focused film but what matters is how did u felt while watching. Were u entertained despite the lack of focus? Cuz I sure was.

the film entertains and i was never checking the menu to see how much time was left so it gets a check-mark from me.

i told a friend that when he's sick of seeing cliche, politically correct movies like (no point in naming one since someone will defend it religiously and miss the point of this post) he should check this movie out it has a recognizable style that will keep it in the back of my head for years to come.

Good point. I was definitely entertained and I suppose that my disappointment in the ending is a testament as to how engrossed I was to begin with.
I definitely look forward to seeing what these guys might do in the future because if anything, the film proved to be a nice vacation from the ordinary (like Dodd said).

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

In other words many right wing Christians read into the movie that it's actually a condemnation of the world for being sexually liberal.

I doubt that too many far-right people found themselves watching this film.

Honestly, I loved the ending. The whole thing was a fun insane ride from the beginning, and the ending delivered on that.

You don't have to hate movies if you're far right and you don't have to be far right to have a literal belief in the Bible. People stereotype far too much.

To me, ending this movie so abruptly, but with "the bitter end" by Placebo in the background changes everything. It gives the end another meaning.

More like, the end (of life) is bitter, and comes without warning, and you always feel like there can be more, that you haven't had enough of everything ...

This movie was totally freaky, but I loved it till the very end ! I loved Juno Temple in it, she's great.

I loved Kaboom, however I feel that I should say that I didn't find it as powerful as Gregg's previous films. Nowhere, Doom Generation, Totally *beep* Up-- Kaboom has the most in common with those 3 of Araki's.

However, I feel as if Kaboom was missing something the other movies had. The entire Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy put out a strong, powerful message. My favourite is in Nowhere, when the alien is killing them off. To me, that was a huge metaphor of "[alien]ation kills".

I just think Kaboom was lacking a central message, as well as minor messages. It doesn't make the film any less good- it's still an amazing, entertaining movie, and I adore it. It just didn't have that hidden meaning his other films had.

Or... maybe I missed any hidden meanings. Did you guys see any? I've watched the movie twice and didn't really notice any underlying themes. I guess you could say the ending was essentially a metaphor for life, as in it ends so abruptly. Then again, Gregg has been doing that for quite some time.

Also, one last thing. The ending-- I realize that at the end, the entire world is shown blowing up in the semi-crappy CGI. However, I've kind of questioned it's authenticity. Towards the end, one of the people who kidnap Smith explains that the New Order is going to hide in the earth during the nuclear war, and then emerge when everyone dies. I feel like this somewhat contradicts the final ending, in which we see the entire earth blown to pieces- Surely the New Order wouldn't have survived that. Instead, at the end of the credits, you see a mushroom cloud with "Kaboom" written over it. I wish they would've used that image instead of the earth blowing up, because it would've made soooooo much more sense to the story-line and honestly made the ending AMAZING, instead of "okay".

What I like is how *beep* crazy the whole thing was. The secret society, the sex, the sex, and the sex; and throw in some mad psychic *beep* just because we *beep* can. *beep*

The image they used at the end was hilarious, a big "WTF!!!" came out of my mouth before I knew it. I thought it was supposed to be a series of calculated nuclear bombs, not a core Kaboom... Oh... Wait. :D

Uh... no.
The movie ended with the end of the world. Just like it was intended to.

As for the CGI clip of the world blowing up, I've already stated my dislike for it. Would have been better had there been several images of nuclear explosions and mushroom clouds.

But it's just those last 4 seconds, and it's certainly no reason to write off the rest of the film.

It's a great reason to write off the rest of the film. It was one of the worst endings to a movie that I have ever seen. It consisted of these one dimensional characters explaining the entire plot of the movie in the last five minutes. 'Your dad is the leader of this random cult' 'that chick you've been boning is your half sister' ' all of these people you've been screwing are actually watching after you for some reason'. Then theres something about nuclear weapons and then we have the characters drive off a cliff as the world blows up in a ridiculous CG explosion. So stupid.

I was never one to hold grudges. My father held grudges, I'll always hate him for that.

I thought the film was awesome until the finale. I wasn't fond of how everything came together and was explained to us, but I could have swallowed that if it weren't for the very ending. That was just stupid. Overall I still very much enjoyed it, but the end definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. What a shame the ending couldn't have been stronger.

Well, to be fair, I think that's what Araki was going for. Just random, fast-paced storyline. I've only seen the movie once, and when I did so, I was high as a *beep* kite and sleep deprived. So, I got the story-line well, but as for any hidden messages, I missed them. I'd like to believe there is some deeper meaning to it all.

Cheers to Araki though. Definately looking forward to his future projects. Heard that he is doing some 'horror' stuff, so DEFINATELY looking forward to that. I think he'd have a very Sam Raimi "Evil Dead" vibe if he chose to make a horror movie.
