My son and I finished the series last night. The final episode was a big, big letdown. SPOILER ALERT

There is this apocalyptic situation in the Commonwealth: revolution, zombies, etc. and aside from Rosita, who else was killed? Just that music teacher guy and his girlfriend who reappeared only to die. Not even the villain Pamela Milton was killed. There were a bunch of characters I was hoping or feared might die and none of them did.

I was really afraid that Eugene, Ezekiel and/or Jerry would die. I'm glad they didn't. I kind of thought Mercer would sacrifice himself in some way to save the rest of the Commonwealth citizens. I really, really wanted to see at least one of the deaf sisters and Magna buy the farm, but the creators were so in love with those lesbian/handicapped/PoC characters that they had to bring back some relatively minor straight white couple (Luke & girlfriend) who had not appeared in ages, just to have someone to kill off.

I never really cared one way or another about Rosita but her death was handled pretty lamely.

While not as totally shambolic as the finale of Game of Thrones, the Walking Dead finale was pretty anti-climactic and bloodless. Weak ending to a series that started off so amazing all those years ago. The Rick & Michonne scenes were interesting, though.

Haven't seen it in a few years but I can't imagine the finale was any worse than most of what had preceded it--for most of its run, it was one of the worst, poorest-written shows on television. If, by the end, they'd stopped killing off the queer or black characters, that's a major change (the Black Guy Rule, in particular, was rigidly enforced through most of the run).

I have watched shows where they killed off major characters in its finale, and it felt wrong and just a way for them to truly end the series so theres no question it'll come back. But with a show like this, killing major characters has already happened throughout the series. So maybe they should have pushed the envelope and killed more people? Thing is, the showrunner himself said "I want to see more of these characters and keep living in this world". Thats why we got to keep Daryl, Rick, Michonne, Maggie, and Negan. My issue with the ending is that the characters I cared about the most didnt have the screentime or presence like all these other characters who entered the show later. So I watched the ending of the show, but to me it felt more like the ending of a season. As the showrunner has already told us he is making seperate miniseries that follow Daryl, then Rick & Michonne, then Maggie & Negan. Three shows of characters I wanted to see. For me the story is not over until I get some closure for Daryl and also Rick & Michonne. Maggie and Negan are just a bonus for me. They should have brought "evolved zombies" into the series sooner than the final season.

I read someones post on this board "These last two seasons have a bunch of characters and bloated cast of people I dont care about. All the main actors are gone or taking a backseat to minor characters. I feel like its Star Trek, but instead of watching the main cast, I am watching a bunch of "red shirts" running around doing missions". xD I couldnt help but laugh and kinda agree!

As a tangent, I began watching Fear the Walking Dead since I found out Morgan Jones character was moving to that show. Seasons 4 through 6 of Fear the Walking Dead have been golden! So when I see closure for Morgan Jones as well...then I will be finally finished with the Walking Dead World.
