The Whisperer recognized Beta when his mask was torn and Beta killed him. Does this mean Beta is actually someone we've seen before?

Beta was apparently a really famous country singer before the outbreak. We see a picture of him and his son(I believe) at one point on the wall in the building where Alpha meets him. It was during a flashback either last season or the one before.
Yeah Beta being someone famous has to be what that scene was about, cause some random whisperer recognizing him couldn't be about anything else really. Perhaps this means we're gonna get more Beta flashbacks showing what led to him being in a mental institution and we'll get more backstory on Beta's friend whos face he was wearing.
