I think they have killed off too many characters.

I think they took the "who will live, who will die" ploy too far. At some point if you kill off too many loved characters or too many loved characters leave fans lose interest. Carol and Daryl are all that are left. Rick is gone....apparently Maggie, Carl, Glenn, Lorie, Shane, Sasha, Sofia, T-dog, Andrea, her sister, Dale, Hershel, Beth, Abraham, Morgan, his son plus tons of others they have befriended. I don't think Enid, Rosita, Eugene and Ezekiel and little Judy can carry the show. I just don't care that much about these characters.

They have gotten rid of too many characters.

reply

Yes, but if it was the other way around, people would be up in arms claiming "plot armor".

reply

Carl's death is the worse, random bite from a zombie wtf. He should have been in Judith position instead so they dun need that ridiculous long time jump.

reply

Carl's was the worst, indeed.

reply

After Carl was bit he should've done something brave against the saviours and go out that way instead, maybe by Lucille. They went half way in that direction i guess. What i wonder is if Judith knows that her brother died in the most embarassing way you can die in this world. I wouldn't be surprised if the others lies about what happened to save his face.

reply

I thought this for the longest time. I would just sigh hearing all the complaints of "character armor" and not enough "deaths" for a particular season and knew they'd figure out a way to SHOW US that wasn't true.
...so they did.
I always argued that a show is only as good as your investment in the characters and killing them all off and replacing them with new characters and sub-par writing just doesn't fill that void.. It doesn't even adequately rationalize the purpose for many of these deaths except to be shocking..There's really only Daryl, Carol and Michonne left now and it seems sad..

Aaron, Jesus and Tara and Rosita have been around a while but they still haven't filled the vacancies left by others..
So they kill Carl because of the 6 year jump and Judith? Why couldn't they age him up if they could age up the tepid Enid? How is the generic Henry a better choice for some of Carl's stories? Why couldn't Carl and Judith co exist(especially when they knew Rick was leaving)?

The writing is better this season than it has been in several but they don't have a great track record in keeping this up.
And can we really invest in this reboot when so many have been lost?
Are we suppose to approach it as a totally new show?
I'm curious at this point but I'm not invested.

I never liked Shane, or hated Laurie like a lot of voices on these chat rooms did.

I always liked T-dog, Dale, Herschel ... and of course Maggie and Glenn. I really
hated that end and opening scene ... and the whole keep Negan alive just irks
me every time I think about it, and especially after this last episode.

Is Morgan dead? I thought he was still out there somewhere doing something.

It took me a long time to like Abraham, but finally when I did they killed him off.

And lately I don't like the personality they have given Michonne. She is such a great
character and I really liked her and Rick as a couple but now she just scowls.

Eugene, who I was really hating is staring to get interesting.

I think you have a good point.

I was really annoyed and bummed to see Jesus go. Seems they're losing too many characters that fans really like, as others have pointed out. Also waiting to see why/how the various enclaves are now not so cooperative. I guess that's mainly Alexandria with Michonne and some sort of falling out with Hilltop. We'll see what that's all about in the second half of the season and hopefully it'll make some sense. It's just not reasonable for the different groups to be at odds with each other given how much they worked for to become successful and free of Neegan, and how much they need to work together to survive.

reply

Its just weird that Michonne cut off all contacts with the other groups, I could understand hilltop but kingdom too? Seems like she is doing the opposite of Rick by keeping to themselves.

reply

some bullshit prequel storyline that happened between 6 years, reason why Michone and Daryl both have X scar on their backs, guessing most of Alexandrian's have that too.

reply

And yet another good character was killed off last night upsetting the fans.

reply

This was nothing compared to whisperer war.

reply

Whatever, I'm glad they have the balls to kill off these characters. It's the damn zombie apocalypse, what show do you think you're watching? Lets face it, this show went down hill a long time ago, and if whiny little fans who get upset because one of their favorite characters died got their way, this show would have gone down even faster.

reply

You aren't really addressing the point. You act as if you are making this comment during the first or second season. Yeah they killed off a lot of people.

My point is that we are about 10 seasons in. The ZA is 10 years old now. The zombies should have mostly rotted away, society should be back up on its legs to a point. Their angle is to just keep killing regular characters every single year.....even until now.

You know the law of diminishing returns? There is a tipping point of killing off every character that makes the show interesting to the point that you don't care. There are no characters you have any interest in and you stop watching.

reply

They need to kill off the host from the Talking Dead next.

reply

They tried, a while back.

reply

Why? He does a great job with the follow-up show.

reply

I don't know how you can have a zombie show that doesn't kill off a ton of characters. Are you sure its not more of a problem of not creating new characters that are interesting enough?

There is a ton of things I can gripe about with the show, but how fast they kill off main characters isn't one of them. I feel like they got that down. It's not enough to make it comical and not worth learning any of their names, but it also isn't so rare that you feel like everybody is safe without any real danger.

Now if you want to go after WHO they kill, that's a different story. I feel like they sometimes kill off a fan favorite just to make the fans cringe a little bit.
