OK, so Rick got rescued by Jadis and her helicopter ...
but, then they skip forward maybe 4 years or more.
Why is Rick not there if he survived? What would keep
him away from his wife and daughter and all his friends?
No matter what happened, I think Rick would have done
everything in his power to return to the group at Alexandria.
Of course that's a biggie...and I think it has been 6 years.
I'm supposing the future films will explain why he hasn't returned or contacted them..but 6 years is a long time..
Amnesia?
Being held against his will?
Maybe having no real means to contact or reach them..?
Or somehow being convinced that whatever is going on where he's been taken and what he's doing there is more lucrative for their future than his presence in their lives?
The timeline and any explanation they give for his continued absense is the biggest issue they have to overcome, IMHO
You have a point there. Where Rick is going could be some other place like Terminus or Negan's so-called Sanctuary, where he is enslaved or worked to death. If there is going to be a movie, or three, I doubt they are going to eat him. Or he could be taken somewhere in the first movie, escape and have to work his way across the country, or accomplish some goals in terms of ending the zombie-pocalypse. Who knows. Even if he thought what he was doing is important, I don't see Rick abandoning all the people he knows. Amnesia seems like a cop out since he would not know who he was, meaning he would essentially not be Rick.
What if they take him somewhere overseas? Not immediately, of course...but after stabilizing him they fly him off to some Island..or Europe..or somewhere far away where they might be studying and doing experiments or studies on the walkers...and the survivors.
As time goes by fuel (or the lack of) would be an impediment to returning and it could end up being a long journey if not nearly impossible just trying to return.
He is convinced for many years he is protecting them by not coming back. But I have a feeling before the show ends he will eventually get word to them he is still alive.
You're right memoryfoam..I didn't think that at all and I don't think it was meant that way.
It's a strange world we're living in.
Aside from Michonne we have Judith and Daryl and Carol...He loves Michonne but he feels like Judith is his daughter and Daryl is his brother and Carol is an old friend since the beginning.
If anything it's a slam that no one can ever be as important as Carl..
I would be happy to discover a little Richonne running around in the time jump myself....and so would Rick if he finds out in our lifetimes.
We will see when the show makers want us to see.... just pray it's good! And gives these characters we have come to be attached to, a decent ending before having their heads bashed in!
Who knows what Rick is up to and why he's not in the "6 years later" scenes... (I think it would make more sense if it was 4 years!)
The movies will give us Rick's journey. Yes, it's kinda up in the air, but how the frak else are the show runners gonna tease the audience and give us something to look forward to without doing just that?!
What I am mystified by is the openness of now. We can go in so many different directions. Characters can take on new dimensions and stories. And since the comics have their own path, the tv show can blaze a trail all its own!
I look forward to it
Much, much more than I did during the neegan "war" that went nowhere for three fkn years!
Rick could be dead, imprisoned, brainwashed, or one of the other 1,000 possible explanations. Perhaps he made a deal to protect the people he loves. "Work for us, or we kill everybody in Alexandria including your daughter." Use your imagination.
Yeah..and that's the thing..I'd washed my hands of the show because S7 & 8 were just so bad but then decided to try S9 because Rick was leaving. And then I find the writing on S9 better than I've seen in several years..so now they've effectively dragged me back in.
But can they keep it up without Rick (or even if Rick was still alive)?
They haven't proven themselves in the past, have they?
And now this film...how long before it's out and we can see if it even goes anywhere?
Minimum 1 - 1 1/2 years...and that's being optimistic.
