No one considered the idea...

that they could hire another actor to play Rick Grimes? As good as Andrew Lincoln is in the lead role, his character shouldn't be killed off simply because he's leaving the show. Think about it. Many actors played the lead role of James Bond, Batman, Superman, Dr. Who, etc. Some turned out to be better than the original actor.

reply

He's leaving? Dont blame him , has to avoid getting typecast.
Its not just his character that should be killed off , its the whole show - its run its course a few times over.
Zombie stories are not meant to extend years after the kick off , with the zombies not rotted away , and the "infinite ammo and fuel" cheat activated.

reply

I think he is way beyond avoiding typecasting already. He will always be Rick. There is no way around that now.

reply

He's British. There's a possibility he can still have a career in his own country if the show isn't too popular there. Lennie James is doing well.

reply

I think he already has a career in his homeland. And I'm not sure if he cares about being forever remembered as Rick or if he even plans on making a career on Hollywood. If indeed planned on becoming a movie star, I don't think he would have turned down roles offered during the time he was in the show and I think he would have kept a lookout for other roles. It seems like he hardly tried. I think he just prefers sticking to work in his own country.

reply

He has barely done any work compared to James, but I think that's because as the star Lincoln had less free time. I've seen several of the other actors in films.

reply

"I've seen several of the other actors in films."

My point exactly. I think it's clear that he's not making much of an effort to get into Hollywood. In terms of talent, Andrew is well above the majority of the cast. He's on the same level or even better than Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lennie James, yet those get enough work in big movies. So I find it hard to believe that he hasn't been offered a role in a big movie since TWD has started.

reply

Lincoln is getting paid less than Reedus ... that is so screwy. He has to work more and harder, and Reedus' character is kind of an idiot.

reply

Didn't Norman get that raise to take over the series lead?

reply

I don't think it was not a raise, it might have been from the start because Reedus had much more acting experience and perhaps better representation, but I don't know for sure.

reply

This wouldn't work in this case, mainly due to the fact that it's in a same continued storyline. It would be way too weird to have Rick have another face all of sudden and have other characters interact with him. That's why they usually reboot. Besides, Andrew is literally the face of this show. The Walking Dead characters are mostly uninteresting and expendable, no one really cares about them, which makes us care even more about Rick. So have him "become another person" wouldn't be good at all.

reply

No one would consider this because it's an awful idea. Can anyone think of one tv show where the main character was replaced with another actor as that same character?
I can't.
.... Talk about losing more of your audience. This show has gone 9 years with Andrew Lincoln as Rick...there is no other Rick...
...there would be anarchy.
I can think of minor characters on sitcoms but even that was pushing the envelope..It's bad business and would be insulting to both the character and the audience..

Films are different than tv shows and characters like James Bond and Super heroes have been rebooting with different actors and different interpretations of them for decades..
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
But it's a movie and 2 hours that might fizzle isn't the equivalent of 16 x 9 years of character development.

They replaced Darron on Bewitch.

True Colors

reply

William Christopher was also a replacement for the original Father Mulcahy on MASH (I'm not talking about the movie actor)

reply

True Colors? I know a film but doesn't register as a tv show. It must have been on network tv.

William Christopher was a very secondary character.
But remember when they replaced Trapper John with a character named BJ Hunnicut or Henry Blake with Sherman Potter or Henry Blake with Charles Winchester?
Important or popular characters could not be replaced with a different actor for the same character even back then.
They tried to fill the void with another character without disrespecting the audience.

reply

Actually, what they SHOULD do is replace the season ending cliffhanger with a series finale.

reply

They could turn Rick into a sentient walker, the makeup would hide the new actor and his character can stay on the show.

reply

I think the show is toast, or at least it should be.

I think TWD stopped being TWD when Carl died. Now that Rick is being killed off, it's complete. There's talk that they are going to make Daryll "The New Rick" which means the show will even be less TWD because Daryll isn't even in the graphic novel.

It's going to take a lot to keep me around if they don't do something pretty spectacular.
