Was The Governor's two episode arc a waste of time?

I mean we spent two straight episodes following him and watching him change into a better person, and then towards the end they just reverted him back into his evil dictator persona. It just felt like a huge waste of time to me, to give a character this arc then throw it all way and undo every bit of it.

What was the point? Just have The Governor pop back up for revenge at some point, we didn't need two entire episodes building him up as this better person for it all to mean jack shit in the end.

In S4 you could have easily just had The Governor randomly appear at the end of an episode, he kidnaps one of them like he did and he just wants to kill them. I didn't need to see him as a good guy for an hour and a half and then try and kill Rick's people.

I will admit, it was nice to see how the Governor went from his failed attempt at taking the prison to going back to Woodbury, setting it on fire, and the moving on, only to go full circle back to the prison.

If they hadn't shown any of that and suddenly he just showed up with a tank and forced Rick & company out on the long road to Terminus, I think a lot of fans may have cried foul. It was good that they showed how Governor got a tank and a new army.

Governor was also the one responsible for setting our original crew onto the journey that eventually led them to Virginia, to the stale and repetitive show it has become since Season 5. Very sad. Seasons 1-3 are so much fun, it's almost a totally different show.

Yes, true. To answer the OP, I really enjoyed the Governor arc. He was a fascinating character to me. I welcomed the chance to see more of his story.

What was the point? Uhh, because that’s life. That’s what happens.

People get an opportunity for redemption, and they may get so close to redemption, then they throw it all away in one dumbass action that reverts back to their badly trained instincts.

This was brilliant tv. It was disturbing and upsetting and frustrating, that’s why it was brilliant.
