Hehe...the second that kid went to unlock the gate, I 100% knew that the prisoners were going to escape. In fact, I would have been completely shocked if they didn't escape, which isn't the way that I'd want to be shocked. What would have dropped my jaw is if the kid actually mowed everyone down, and created a Lizzy-esque kind of situation. However, it's been quite some time since this show has surprised me like that, and I simply don't expect the (awesomely) unexpected anymore.
And, yes, I found it very obnoxious that more Saviors didn't drop in those scenes (like the Kingdom troops dropped in a similar situation). The Hilltop had the drop on them so hard that it's annoying that ANY of them walked out of that alive, so it's maddening that almost all of them escaped.
For real, gun battles have never felt less dangerous than they do in this war. It's like every character fearlessly walks on to a battlefield as if it were a paintball skirmish - Oh, we know they can't shoot shit, no matter how close we get to them. Here, I'll show you by whistling in their backyard. See, I told you they can't shoot shit.
What's funny is that the Hilltop are going to win this war, but the way this season has played out makes it seem like it should happen by complete accident, or without their participation - Like, Eugene accidentally gets all of the Saviors killed in an explosion, or something.
