in light of halloween..which HWs you seen at cinema (or tv)?

think remember debating to go see H20 in summer 98 (which this seems to be a remake of) as it was kind of a big deal JLC was back (and had become quite a big name since HW) plus it was made in light of the success of the Screams (Kevin Williamson was even involved). didn't go tho.. so might go see H40 as never seen a HW at cinema before (and this will actually be out at HW .. dont think many of them have come out around HW?)

so regarding seeing the previous movies just on TV, used to own the H78 VHS (v bad picture quality) so saw that a couple times (no bothered to upgrade to DVD tho). Caught bits of the various sequels on late night tv (2 - the end at the hospital. 3 - most of it. H20 - actually may have seen it in its entirety on rented VHS in 98 or 99 but can't remember much of it just the start with JLC/Hartnett/Williams and the Clooneyalike guy and the ending with the beheading. HR - just the opening with death of JLC but couldn't take the junk after). The Zombie remake actually bought this cheap on DVD the other day due to all the hype of the new movie and never seen it before, got through it over a few nights. won't bother getting the sequel as the remake was hard going and saw the H2 trailer on utube no thank you. also just utubed the start/ends of H4/5/6. H4 looked pretty good! very atmospheric opening and chilling ending

I saw the Rob Zombie sequels first in theaters, and then the 2018 one last night. I first saw the original Halloween back in 1999 when I was 11 on VHS and loved it. :)

reply

oh man you actually saw ZombieWeen in the cinema? how did that go?

reply

Really, it wasn't that bad. For a remake, I actually didn't think it was that bad. The original is better, yes, but I still enjoyed it. RZ's 2 is okay, but not a favorite.

i saw halloween 5 halloween resurrection rob zombies halloween 1 and 2 and 2018 halloween just today!

Wow so your like a proper HW cinemagoer. But how come you no see H6 tho? Or H20?!

Just this one and Rob Zombie’s

I saw each and every that played in the theatre, starting with 1978. That viewing left me trembling, my legs weak with fear.

Wow every one at the cinema?! This new one must've ben abit of a big deal to you then like The Force Awakens of Halloween movies.. How did it compare to the rest at the cinema in terms of anticipation for you, the audience, best to worst etc ?

I have seen every "Halloween" movie in the theater (including this abomination) since the original came out 40 years ago.

Here's the truth. There never should have been any sequel. "Halloween" (the original) was more an exercise in cinematic style rather than an actual movie. There's no story to speak of, in the traditional three-act sense, and the only explanation we were given for Myers' rampage was that he was the boogeyman. And, like the boogeyman, he's gone at the end (maybe to haunt some other town some other Halloween night, maybe not). Given the above, it's impossible to make a sequel that's not a cynical cash-in. This latest cinematic abortion is no exception.

Don't waste your money subsidizing this crap.

Yet you seen every movie in the cinema lol

reply

Ha ha! That is very true. I saw them for my own reasons, but what I said still stands. No sequels should have ever been made.

I enjoyed the new one. It's definitely an above-average slasher film. Not sue why you feel inclined to be so hard on it.

The first Halloween film I ever saw, believe it not, was Resurrection. I was in college when it came out, had never seen any of the others, but said fuck it and checked it out in the theater. It was kind of dumb.

More recently, I finally got around to seeing the first one, and also saw 4, 5 and the first Rob Zombie film. And tonight I saw 2018.

The first one is good. 4 is not great, but kind of fun. 5 is just a total bore and is nearly plotless. The Rob Zombie film is different, obviously, but kind of interesting. And 2018 is pretty good, I think.

The only really good one was H 1978. I've seen H, H II in theaters. H III (no Michael) on VHS and DVD. H is still good. H II is still bad. H III is not that bad. It was a bit ahead of its time and now is feasible. H20 was okay. I've seen parts of the rest. I saw H 2018 in a theater and enjoyed it at first, but after discussing it, it's not worth it. They spent money on the scenes and the marketing, but it's not worth keeping the series alive. We never see what happens to Michael after being hit, shot, burned, etc. You know he's going to come back and his mask and clothes aren't damaged for some reason.

What was wrong with H 2018? There was no payoff. Laurie Strode is this survivalist grandmother with an armory and there is no REAL confrontation between her and Michael. We do not see Michael get hit by gun shots even though he did. He gets hit by a tire iron multiple times and no damage. People are fooled by the quality production, but the writing is lacking. The reporters, Dr. Sartani and law enforcement are ignorant of Michael Myers. They should know by now that he's the boogeyman that can be captured and hurt, but not killed or difficult to kill.

If you start with H20, then you're going to get a story where Myers loses his head. I'm not sure how he gets brought back to life after that. Both Michael's and Laurie's storyline get convoluted in the H and H II, so who knows where it goes after H20?

Bottom line is Halloween is a day that is celebrated and still good and fun day for kids and adults and to be scared. There should be better movies about the boogeyman and new, fresh characters to scare people with than Michael Myers and Laurie Strode.

All of them except the first.

I was only 11 at the time and my parents wouldn't let me go to the first one.

Well I finally saw a HW at the cinema.... wow.. pretty intense.. can't remember last time saw an '18' at the cinema..maybe Blade II (thought Alien Covenant was an 18 as it was just as gory as this but it was actually a 15)

reply

Saw both Halloween '78 and Halloween '18 on the big screen this year. The original is now a 15 cert, it's quite tame even for a 15 nowadays. Still, it's a million times better than the 2018 remake...err sequel.
