Wow this seems really over rated to me (no troll)

Ok so you can guess from the title that i think this film is horribly over rated. I mean i enjoyed it, it was a bit of fun i guess. But Mark Kermode gave it his film of the year?! LOL What?! I had also heard that its 'deep man' and really political, jesus are you kidding me?

Dont get me wrong, its a fun kids movie with some adult themes that i thought was ok. Im not saying 'Worst movie ever' like the comic book guy from The Simpsons, im just saying i thought this was very average and i just dont get all the praise heaped on it.

Am i the only one that went into this expecting more?

I agree. This film was extremely over rated and did not live up to the hype. Honestly I didn't find any of the jokes that funny.

Here comes the sun...

Agreed, i didnt think any of the jokes were particularly funny either. I mean sure there were a few snorts etc. I think my problem with the film is that it thinks its cleverer than it is.

I got the impression the writers were slapping each other on the back for a job well done, so i guess i found it pretentious but without anything to back it up.

Wow. You seem like a troll if you have to say you're not!

I found it to be a chore to watch, and I don't think I made an audible laugh the entire way through.

Pretty lame movie.

I agree with the OP. I watched it twice and looked for the magical element that had everyone raving. It failed for me both times, could barely tolerate it. Was a whole lot of noise and frenetic storytelling and nothing more. Good for some people, I'm sure, but totally not for me.

Here's the thing about all of these comments: Judging by the writing, I'm guessing you're all adults. Or, at least, late teens at the youngest.

This may come as a shock to you, but you are NOT this movie's target audience. The jokes and the "screeching happiness" are just right when viewed through the eyes of a child. My son has watched this movie dozens of times since it hit DVD and he never tires of it. He's 11. This movie was made for HIM, not for me.

Of course, when I watch it with him and I experience the fun and laughter that he's having while watching it, it enables me to thoroughly enjoy it, too, since I'm sharing that fun experience with him.

It's not my fave film, but I thought it was pretty good- had lots of parts I found amusing. The production and ideas behind it were what I liked the most- and I teared up when the father realizes what he had been doing by excluding his kid.

It was a fun celebration of creativity and choice- and I liked that.

i am swinging over to the camp that think a broad number of imdb voters will only vote 7,8,9,10 or 1.

i know for a while, i only voted on movies that i liked so anything above 7. i've realigned them and gotten into the habit of using the full range of ratings.
