Why is this rated so highly?

C'mon, this has to be an elaborate troll, right?

I think people liked it for the same reason people liked "This is the End" (which I loved). They felt like they were in on the joke that no one else was, and the people who don't like it just don't understand where it's coming from, man.

I didn't like this movie. There were definite funny parts and I laughed out loud occasionally, but I knew what I was getting into with this movie because no one can keep a secret. If I was going in expecting a slasher flick, I may have been pleasantly surprised, but it's hard to say given the fact that you meet eponymous characters immediately. It's not difficult to see where the movie is going to go from there.

My main critique of the movie is that it didn't hold my interest. The entire way through, you're waiting for the thing to happen that you know is going to happen, so you just looking forward to seeing what the T&D spin on it is going to be. It took me 2 days to watch this movie (indeed, I watched the whole thing) because nothing was drawing me into it. The only thing going for it was the comedic back and forth between Labine and Tudyk and the occasional misunderstanding which harks back to the classic horror genre. As a spoof-type movie, the jokes were well done. As a movie that is meant to hold interest, it just didn't do it for me. I knew where it was going from the beginning and was expecting the plot, jokes, misunderstandings, and ultimate turning of the tables regarding who was really bad.

If I were to offer constructive criticism, my like for the movie fell to lukewarm when we realize that Chad is the psycho and he's the lynchpin to holding the movie together by owning the antagonist role. It would have been better if there were no clear distinctions and the writers figured out a way to make it seem equal on both sides. At that point, I felt like I was supposed to be watching 2 different movies, one honest and one spoof, and it was up to me to decide in which way I should appreciate each scene.

Anyway, my critical conclusion is that it just wasn't interesting enough as a whole to keep my interest. The comedic acting was well done and Katrina Bowden was ridiculously hot--to the point where it was distracting. I mean wow. But whatever fresh concept they brought to the table was executed poorly. Individual parts of it were great, but the whole was not greater than their sum.

I really loved this movie but your spoiler was exactly the flaw in the movie.

Yeah, it was a mixed bag for me as well. There were a few laughs, but also a few groans. The movie is probably 1 or 2 points rated too high, but that's just because this site tends to be biased towards new movies and those that appeal to the young adult male in general.

Cry somewhere else.

Because it is clever and funny and not everyone who votes has a stick up their @ss

I liked it. I loved when they kept trying to figure out why the college kids were killing themselves!

me2 I understand 5 or 6 but 7.7? wtf. this movie is pretty average comedy.

reply

because unlike most american comedy horrors that are loud brash and have generally OTT humour that only the lowest common denominator find funny this film actually IS funny and a lot of the humour is quite clever and subtle.. and like I already said and must emphasise actually is funny.

reply

It is a well made comedy in my opinion and actually has a decent story

I thought it was pretty funny. It lagged a little in the second half but I really enjoyed it overall.
